    Hi!
I've been designing a party to play SoZ (and maybe some modules after that) for the first time. I've played IWD2 a lot and also most ofter D&D-based CRPS:s so I know some about how the D&D-system works but nothing about the SoZ-campain and not that much about NWN2 in general.

Are there any skills I really should have on at least one member? Are talking skills useful? Any great feats to consider? What is the maximum level and what lvl will I reach in SoZ?

Would a party like this be any good or just crappy?:

NE Dark elf Sorc 6+ / EK10 / ASoC 3 or 10 with maybe BG 2-3 taken later
    - pure caster

LE Yuan-ti Fav.Soul 6+ / Doomguide 10 / BG 2-3 (maybe more) and maybe later a few lvls of a fighter-type class after I,ve taken at least one more cleric lvl.
    - Should have high str and cha.

LN Gray Orc cleric 5+ / Fighter 1 / Stormlord 10 and after that some more cleric lvls and maybe something else as later mix in.
    - High wis and str and a little more caster-oriented than the FS but still capable of tanking.

NE Geep Gnome Wizard (necromancer) 5 / EK10 with possibly some ASoC or PM.
    - This should be the backup-caster.
Should I start with a lvl of rogue for some ranks in spot, listen, detect trap and other rogue skills or are low-lvls in those useless? Which are the best specialist wizard types?

Would this party manage to beat SoZ?

Some minor changes to the party:

NE Dark elf Sorc 6+ / EK10 (not all in a row though) / ASoC 3 or 10 with maybe BG 2-3 taken later
    stats: 14 14 14 12 8 18+ (+ = at lvlups)
skills: concentration, spellcraft, some bluff and diplomacy during sorc and ASoC-lvls and save them during EK-lvls.

LE Yuan-ti Fav.Soul 6+ / Doomguide 10 / BG 2-3 (maybe more?) and maybe later a few lvls of a fighter-type class after I,ve taken at least one more cleric lvl.
    stats: 16 10 14 12 12 18+ or 16 12 14 12 10 18+ (dex or wis at 12?)
skilla: conc, diplomacy5, hide5 (as CC), tumble1 (CC), spellcraft.

LN Gray Orc cleric 5+ / Fighter 1 / Stormlord 10 and after that some more cleric lvls and maybe something else as later mix in. Uses spear and shield (monkey grip)
stats: 18-10-14-10-18+-6 with str and dex possibly as 16-14 or 17-12??
skills: concentration, spellcraft or survival (class skill for SL)

NE Geep Gnome Wizard (necromancer) 5 / EK10 with possibly some ASoC or PM.
    stats: 14-16-14-16+-10-4
Skills: spellcraft, concentration, lore, craft(weapon+armor) and the 2 crafting feats.

    Any comments/input would be appreciated!!

Play what you want to play. Part if the fun is discovering what works best for you. I tend to do more pure classes, but I do like Dwarven Weapon Masters using a Dwarven Waraxe and shield.

I took a Ranger, Rogue, Fighter/Weapon Master, and a Cleric through and picked up the Druid companion.

Yeah, play what you want to.

I was thinking Yaun-ti Ranger/Bard of Selune or a Cleric/War Priest of Sharess.

Then again I lean good in most of my parties and you don't seem to have designed one to be so here (hence a return to play what you want).

    Yaun-ti Cleric/War Priest of Sharess?

Is this the same Sharess that is the goddess of sensual fulfillment? And the same Yaun-ti that look like snakey creatures?

    Thanks for your input!

I've played a lot of party-based RPG:s and especially IWD2 a lot so I know what kind of characters I generally like and what works in that game, but that doesn't mean it works well in SoZ.
I'm a powergamer (#5 in this poll I made a year or so ago: http://www.sorcerers.net/forums/showthread.php?t=44858 ), so I don't mind complex multiclassing if I can use the races I want and avoid xp-penalties).

    Some more specific questions:

Are survival or spot important (I heard something about a them working on the world map)? Do you need high ranks in them for them to make any difference?

Any more skills I really should have on at least one?

Will small numbers in the rogue skills help or do most locks and traps have really high DC? (In other words: should my backup-caster (with high ECL) start with a lvl of rogue for 4 ranks (+ int) in many rogue-skills or would those few skills not matter after a few lvls when locks become too difficult?)

Any great feats I should consider?

Are doomguard and stormlords any good in SoZ (they don't seem to differ much from regular priests so they should be quite powerful :D )?

Sorry, I should have been more specific that the Yuan-ti was the Bard/Ranger for Selune.

I didn't mean a Yuan-ti cleric of Sharess (that would be big background story to explain, possible but it would take a story). And yes Sharess is, though she is also a foe of Set (an evil snake type god elsewhere in the D&D story background of the Forgotten Realms) whose followers there follow a fight hard then party hard motto. Hence War Priest isn't actually out of character.

    Mudde

I think Doomguides work just fine. One of the skills you may want to have is stealth (ranger or thief) so you can avoid some fights on the overhead map-if you feel like it. I tend not to thus I don't always do so but other people have mentioned it saves time at higher levels.

I think Yuan-ti abilities and attributes work well for a Ranger/Bard.

If you want to be able to spot and avoid random encounters on the world map, then Listen, Spot, Hide and Move Silently are important. Survival is important if they see you and you want to run away from them. The higher the better obviously.

There are also team-building feats that you can train in (at an Adventurers Guild) that require certain skills for all team members to be able to train in it. I think the manual describes the feats and what skills are necessary.

    Some Update:

Haven't had much time to play but noticed at lvl 3 when I had to choose feat that Favored Souls can't turn undead and therefore can't become Doomguides (they can with mix-in classes but not as pure FS) :(
I usually never use turn undead but wanted a doomguide mostly because there aren't many fun divine prestige-classes and a high bab-class could also help giving him an extra attack.

So my new 2:nd character will be:
LE Yuan-ti FS ~16 / BG 2-3 / NWN 1-5 and maybe some later warpriest-lvls if i play modules until lvl 30 to gain BAB 26 and 9th lvl spells.

    The other will be:
    NE Dark elf Sorc 6+ / EK10 / ASoC 3 or 10 / BG 2-3
Will have some bluff for fights on the OM.

LN Gray Orc cleric 5+ / Stormlord 10 and after that some more cleric lvls and maybe something else as later as mix in (fighter/NWN/WP.)
Will have some survival (SL class skill) for fast speed on OM.

NE Geep Gnome Wizard (necromancer) 5+ / EK10 /PM1 or 7 and later on possibly some ASoC or fighter-type class.
    Party crafter.
