What word or phrase do you use excessively?

Personally, I over use the word 'personally' I also tend to say 'good grief' a lot and in RL I use the F-word with abundance

    It depends on where...

At work it's "idiot" at home it's "yes, dear."

I don't think I do much of this in, y'know, the real world, but I often find when I'm writing informally (i.e., posting on message boards) I tend to fall into a pattern of repetition. I'll use the same expression multiple times within one post without realizing it, for instance.

All my over-used phrases are rated R. I curse more than a sailor. Usually, but under my breath, so in most cases no-one hears me go.

What my bro said. I'm not nicknamed "Rated-R" for no reason.

I use "However" instead of "but" way too much.

Blades, anytime you can irk the wife in public is a good time:thumb:.

In order to overuse a word I would need to actually talk on a regular basis. :p

When writing the word However always comes up. Often have to go back and edit to remove the five howevers from the one sentence...

However when speaking, I don't tend to. Occasionally get in the habit of saying a word too much, but it's something I tend to pick up fast and force myself to stop.

I'm disappointed - I thought this thread was going to be about your favorite cliches. I mostly agree with T2B though - if you're at work you have to self-censor a lot of what you'd otherwise say.

I do tend to say "Aw Dude! Check this out!" alot. Even when speaking to chics, a.k.a. the enemy. :p I have been accused at a former job of telling to many people to Kiss My A$$, but it was all a big misunderstanding, as i used to sign all my emails at the end with KMA, which are my initials...

    My pet hates:

"Y'know" (which has already been used in this thread)
    "Y'all"
"was like" (when used in place of "said" or "did")
"Basically" or "Essentially" (superfluously used at the start of explanations)

I really don't like the following phrases...

'I'm not being funny', 'At the end of the day', 'I'll be honest', 'When all's said and done'.

    They don't mean anything!

What ticks me off is the use of charged phrases as surrogate arguments and the use of and keywords to infer an analogy, as a 'bait and switch', or false dual choice.

An example for the latter: "Munich 1938" + "Holocaust" + "Hitler" + "Nazi Germany" + "Ahmedinejad/Saddam" + "Iraq/Iran" + "nuke", usually combined in one paragraph, and supposed to infer that any negotiation is appeasement of the démon de jour, and we all knew what came out of it. It is based on the assertion by the authors that the situations are comparable. It is then usually solved by the phrase: But (after we relentlessly propagandised the theme) everybody knew that Saddam/Ahmedeinejad had nukes; it's truly a miracle that we all were so wrong ...

It makes me want to puke whenever I encounter it. That said, forcing, or rather seducing, people to make a certain choice, now, is what sale is all about, and I am happy that I don't sell any more. That is, my revulsion towards that sort of 'discourse' probably is also influenced by my dislike of a certain period of my past :shake:

Words like 'self evidently', 'obviously' and 'of course' make me suspicious. I am generally weary of adjectives. When writing seriously I have to force myself to weed them out.

I've caught myself saying, "I'm not going to lie" at the beginning of telling someone how I feel about something. I've also been using the phrase, "pretty much awesome" too much.

It usually goes, "I'm not going to lie, that movie was pretty much awesome!"

At work I tend to use, "Send it to me in an email and I'll get it looked at as soon as possible", translates to, "Go away I'm too busy".

At home I tend to use, "In a minute babe I'm just doing somthing", translates to, "If I wanted to do it I'd be doing it already".

When I'm out, "To be fair...", translates as, "I actually don't agree with a single work you just said go get me a pint".

[IMG] Seriously, listen: Let me tell you this, and I'm not kidding... Y'know, to be honest, you'd better pay attention. What I tell you now is straight up, no nonsense, I'm being serious now:

I hate it when people talk a lot, but don't say anything.

I think I use the word "like" often as does many people.
