Sorry about the nonsense title. Anyway, I'm thinking of doing a Monk Character, one of the few classes I haven't tried. (I also haven't tried Cleric or Fighter, I'm mainly a 'behind-the-line' sorta guy) At any rate, anyone got some ideas for how I should handle the start of the game?

Save alot and hide in shadows always. Monks fight pretty well and progress quickly but have pretty bad AC to start. Dont get frustrated it gets MUCH better pretty quickly.

Have fun. Killing Dragons with one hit is one of the coolist things.

Be sure to use all of your special abilities, they come in handy.

[IMG] I've heard that monks can use Keldorn's armor. Not sure about this but if it works it will improve your AC for the early parts of the game.

Modhi is right in that Monks can wear Keldorn's armor. However, doing so entails certain prerequisites; your stats must be at a certain level. Read Dan Simpson's Guide to BGII to see what they are (I have do idea what it is, but I believe you need a decent Wisdom score).

You need good Con and INT as well, I think.

Not to mention that's pretty lame. :(

Make a monk with above-average DEX, CON, and WIS.. DEX to raise AC, CON to raise hit points, and WIS to increase saving throws. Then you'll have a damage-resistant monk without resorting to Keldorn's armor.

I think you will find a monk to be one of the strongest solo fighters of all the classes. I found this monk guide to be invaluable early on:

    http://www.gamebanshee.com/baldursgateii/strategies/monk.php

You should blow through everything with the exception of Kangaxx and Chromatic Demon (ToB) early on. Later battles Prince of Demons etc can be beaten if you don't mind a little cheese. ie. hiding and using wand of cloudkill. Have fun with it. :)
