No update on the site since February. I would say there is a 5 percent chance they ever update the site again, much less complete the game. Shame too, as the rules sounded fairly clever.

I was thinking the same when I checked the website a few weeks ago. It's such a shame, I was pretty excited about the game.

If the plug was pulled, Is Sorcerers not the first place to tell it?

I always expected that a games studio would notice in the latter stages. If so, I would keep very quit. Hype it when you have a beta version.

The plug hasn't been pulled yet, or at least not completely. I spoke with Compton a few days ago and he's told me that unfortunately things didn't go according to plan, but that there will probably be some sort of update in the coming weeks. So let's keep our fingers crossed.

Yes, we're still plugging away. Rather than feel guilty about an uncommunicative 2008, I've simply resolved to do a little better in 2009.

Okay, so in the vein of doing a little better, how about a mid 2009 update? :skeptic:

Okay, so in the vein of helping jcompton and team appear to have a pulse in 2011 :p -- I found this article linked on their main website from just a few days ago:

    http://bookwyrmeslair.blogspot.com/search/label/Planewalker Games

The news page from their site:
    http://www.planewalkergames.com/broken-hourglass/latest-news-mainmenu-58

It doesn't actually directly talk about the game, but I guess this is evidence that they're still alive and kicking, and at least thinking about things that relate to the game, if not directly thinking about the game itself.

Even so, that fork may still be appropriate.

    ---------- Added 23 hours, 5 minutes and 43 seconds later... ----------

I guess I should ammend my previous post somewhat. Yesterday I only had time to read the most recent post in the blog, which didn't specifically deal with Broken Hourglass.

This morning I took another look at the link and some of the earlier posts, and there are plenty that mention efforts still underway related to this game. There is even mention of Wesley Weimer coming out of "retirement" to update the game engine. Many of these posts are quite recent.

So it seems that, other than this particular blog, the rest of the team is still working but pretty much decided not to bother providing updates on their work. So perhaps one day there will be another Infinity engine style game out there after all.

Sorry for not reading the blog more thoroughly yesterday... but I was in the middle of my work day and didn't have much time.

I fear that by the time they're done, the niche they were aiming for at the beginning of development will have shrunk considerably. None of the hip kids these days will want to play such an "antique" RPG by today's standards of graphical glory.

If SP is any indication, when you consider that since Jcompton's post on Jan 1, 2009, there have been a total of 4 posts in this forum (3 from me, including this post, and now 1 from you)... I'd guess that this has already happened to some extent.

I continue to hold out interest, and hope, and was encouraged by some of what I found in the blog.

Sorry, it's just that most old-timer gamers like me make an effort not to get too excited by VaporWare. We know there's a very good chance that such a thing will never be completed, so we prefer to wait until there is something more tangible before showing lots of enthusiasm.

This comes as no real surprise. Most experienced developers buy their engines rather than creating them from scratch and they usually have larger (and full time!) teams working on the game. They bit off more than they could chew and, by the looks of it, were unwilling to make some of the hard decisions involved with creating a game like this. They really should have tried to buy an engine, despite the cost, and should have considered creating a smaller cast of characters (3-5) for the PC to adventure with. The "NPC shopping mall" of BG2 was fun and added replay value, but they could have added additional NPC's with patches, downloadable content, etc. Having a smaller cast would have greatly reduced the writing burden, and they really didn't need to front-load the game with this stuff.
