This was just to funny to pass up:

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26917664/?GT1=43001

The best part is the end: "its brain was too cooked by the hot water to determine whether it had rabies." Which begs the question, if the bat was cooked so much that a lab couldn't determine if it had rabies, wouldn't any possible rabies contamination be cooked off as well? :hmm:

What I want to know, is how it got in there in the first place! :rolling:

I suppose it's one way to get more protein into the diet :p

Edit: Kitrax - Rabies is caused by a virus and viruses are generally hard to see, so I reckon the main lab test for it would involve looking for signs of inflammation in the brain. I guess the scientists reckon the signs of brain inflammation are potentially more sensitive to heat than the virus.

Good idea, Disciple! You could say something like this:

"Hey, drink your coffee HERE! Don't brew it at home, folks, it's too dangerous. We here at Starbucks have a 100% guarantee that there will be no bats in your coffee!"

Bats in Starbucks coffee would probably improve the taste!

You know, this could be the reason Mormons don't drink coffee - -too much danger of something weird getting into the mix!

This brings to mind the concept of "Kopi Luak", a brand of coffee made particularily famous by the movie "The Bucket List" but well known to many before the release of that fine film. Basically, a large cat swallows the beans whole, and the digestive juices add a certain je ne sais pas to the flavour. The beans are collected after the beast defecates.

Who knows? Maybe for the next Batman movie someone can market some high end "Bat-coffee". We could see Christian Bale using a "Bat-Percolator"! Talk about the marketing opportunities.

Actually, it's not a large cat, but a Civet cat, which is not a cat at all. The coffee is produced specifically by Asian Palm Civets, which, as you can see, is more in resemblance to a tiny lemur (though there's no direct relationship there either). They *are* related to the Binturong, or Bearcat, however. :)

Still, a bat in the coffee? Eww! :p
