Spore Creature Creator (Demo)

    Anyone download this and give it a try? The demo doesn't have all the different parts that will be available, but you can make a pretty wide variety of creatures with what's there.

    I made a couple a weird creatures last night.

    The first one is a flying bug-like creature (with arms and legs though). The body is long and snake-like because I didn't realize on this first try that you can/ how you can make the body fatter.

    The second was a four-legged two-armed dinosaur-like thing.

    Pretty interesting demo.

    I got it from Yahoo since they were advertising it yesterday, but I suppose you might as well just go to the Spore site

    well it is a 205mb demo & even though i'm on RR turbo it's only DL at like 70-80kbs. so thats like 40-50 mins maybe others have had as long or longer & decided not to DL it?

    OK, got it DL'd & gave it a try. yeah it's pretty cool. like you said though, it would be better if you had access to all of the parts but i don't know if it would be worth buying. The dances were pretty funny though especially with 3 baby creatures going at it with you.

    I've downloaded it last night (it took an hour, btw), but I only tried it out a few hours ago, and it's fun.

    Some of the creatures possibilities are just adorable. :)

    My first creation was a purple lizard like hybrid with a mace ball for a tail and tiny wings, and the second was, well... hard to explain (lets just say it had horns, duck feet and grapplers...) :D

    Having more parts would be nice, like other have said, but it's a fun demo anyway.

    I love this. I just made this red oriental-ish dragon/snake thing (no legs or arms). Yeah, it would be awesome with more pieces, but it's really nice as-is. Trying things for more than their intended purposes is fun (i.e. make a 'robe' out of 'wings' or use the 'knee-bones' to make scales, etc.). I should grab some of those pictures and make up an album of them.

    Heh. I took that globe-like spitting weapon and put a pair right between the rear legs of my dinosaur-like thing. The effect was rather amusing :)

    What I like about the toolset is that it's really easy to place pairs of things things symmetrically.

    The concept is pretty cool, they should divide up the game itself into two parts or something. One cute and cuddlesy game for hte Sims crew and a pure killing machine creator for the WoW crew. :D

    The Creature Creator is just a preview of part of the game Spore that I believe comes out in September. It seems to be several games in one.

    The concept of Spore is that you build your creature up from the microbial stage, though a land-based creature, up to sentience, and then you direct their cultural and technological development up through a space-fairing society. Every generation (up to sentience) you get to use 'DNA points' to buy advances for your creature (or do a total re-design as I understand it).

    The creature creator released for the demo is only the creature creation mechanism. There will also be microbial creature creation, several vehilce designs, building designing, and possibly pland design, I'm not sure.

    [​IMG] A planetry design element has been discussed at several demos though no physical demonstration of it has been shown as of yet, only the reclimatizing of barren lands in game.

    I'll have to upload my creations. I have the full version of the creature creator :D

    I also heard that it is supposed to come out in Sept - the PC version that is. Does anyone know when it is supposed to come out on other platforms? I'll be specifically looking for the PS3 version. Although having it for my computer would be great, I know that my kids are going to want to play this one, and that makes the PS3 the most convenient choice.
