So, who's better?

    Well, I saw a lot of discussion on the topic conserning "Kensai/thief or assassin" and I wonder,

    who can ditching out the most OVERALL DMG over time
    who can ditch out the most dmg in 1 hit?

    P.S. Whats the class that deals THE MOST dmg in 1 hit?

    [ToB-only NPC] deals the super-power 200points in a single attack with his Deathbringer assault.

    And to your answer, a Kensai-Thief dualled at level 21(or 24, whatever), is Da Best, especially with Scarlet Ninja-to.

    Besides, in vanilla BG1->BG2, a Kensai can get Str 24; an Assassin is not so lucky - Str 22 is his ceiling. So, Kensai wins.

    Well, a Fighter/Assassin would do pretty respectable damage with x7 backstab and poison, but since he's not a real option (can't be done realistically without cheating), it's Kensai/thief.

    No, I dont have ToB. So, you say kensai/thief is better in which, dmg over time or 1hit dmg? Are there any guides on making a Kensai/Thief?

    If you don't mind waiting, dual class your kensai at level 13, but if you don't want to wait for 70% of the game before your character is ready, dual class him at lvl 9.
    I'd recommend kensai 13-> thief 'x', he will be that man. Better than he was at level 9. Better, stronger, faster.

    ...6 Million Dollar Man reference, anyone?

    Assassin is a thief class, so yeah, a helluva lot.
    Kensai gets: +1 to hit and +1 damage for every three lvls. = +4 at level 13. One Kai (max damage for 10 seconds) for every 4 levels. = 3 at level 13. Plus he's faster and gets the fighter bonuses: 5 stars in weapon profiencies and more attacks per round. Then add thief's 5x backstab.
    Assassin gets +1 to hit and damage only once, one star in weapon profiencies, no fighter skills, +12/+24 poison damage and x7 backstab.

    Are there any guides on how to make a good Kensai/Thief? like, what weapon proficencies to choose etc.

    Does monk do more dmg? Who does the most dmg?

    P.S. Where can I get script like, auto hide in shadows when possible and stuff like that? They are not in sorcerers as far as I know.

    1. Five points to Lonswords, three points to two weapon fighting. I don't remember any guides. Just don't put him in the front, since he can't wear any armor.

    2. Monk doesn't do particularly much damage, but gets special attacks, he can stun the enemy and later gets Quivering Palm that has a chance of killing even dragons with one blow.
    It doesn't really matter who does the most damage, a paladin with a two-handed sword kills everyone too, it might take two seconds longer, but since he gets to wear armor and use spells, it balances out.

    3. Don't know, I don't use scripts.

    Cool, thanks for info! Btw, the scripts are located at the same screen (in-game) where u look at your character information, you just have to push the "Customize" button, and then "Scripts".

    "Agressive Thief" Doesn't seem to work at ALL, my friend has 255 hide in shadows and he still doesn't hide automaticly, and he won't even try to backstab. So, basicly, it doesn't work.

    P.S. I didn't install the multiplayer thing from the CD, is there a way to install it without unistalling the game and all the mods?

    The only good thing an Assassin has over a Kensai > Thief (IMHO) is that you can choose a demi-human race. Half-Orcs (with their 19 STR) help a lot with THAC0 and damage. Dwarves, Halflings, and Gnomes have great bonuses to saving throws. Elves get a +1 to hit with longswords.

    I'd go Kensai 13> Thief if solo or in a small party. If you're in a full sized party, dual at 9.

    In SoA, the multiclassed fighter/thief may be a better character than either the assassin or kensai/thief as you never lose abilities -- the ability to use armor, gauntlets, missile weapons, etc. is significant for the medium level characters.

    The real problem with the assassin is how often you hit. Late in the game a half-orc assassin hits really hard on a backstab, but only uses the thief 'to hit' tables. The kensai's 'to hit' basically stops when you dual, leaving you a bit short there as well. This is not a problem for the multiclassed character.

    With ToB installed, thieves become much more powerful. But still, the multiclassed fighter/thief is better.

    Chris Lee's Thief Guide is quite good, and can be found here.

    Monks do an incredible amount of damage. With a good belt and a nice pair of gauntlets a monk can do nearly 100 points of damage per round (average about 60), are immune to many attacks, quick to attack, and can insta-kill opponents. In SoA, the monk is very much on par with any fighter type.

    What chances does monk have for 1 hit kill?

    A high level monk hits for 1d20 plus bonuses. A single hit can do over 30 points of damage -- a critical hit with a high damage roll will do a one hit kill on many enemies.

    The Quivering Palm allows the target a saving throw. If the target fails their save, they die. The odds of killing the target are dependant on the target's saving throw. That said, in a party cast Lower Resistance, Greater Malison, Doom and then Quivering Palm -- this combination can kill dragons (but then so can chromatic doom and traps).

    So basicly, highest dmg is dont my monk? Higher then Half-orc assassin, or Fighter/thief, or Kensai/thief, or Mage(sorc, specialist, etc.)

    The highest single hit is always a backstab (not counting magical attacks). However, in multi round fighting (where backstabs are not always possible) the monk will shine as an offensive powerhouse.

    Single hit -- assume 19 strength and using Celestial Fury (not the best backstabbing weapon, but it does the most damage):

    kensai/thief -- (1d10+3, +4 weapon specialization, +4 kensai) X 5 + 8 strength = 113 points of damage. Average per hit damage is 21.5 without backstab.
    assassin -- (1d10+3, +1 assassin, +2 gauntlets of weapon expertise) X 7 + 8 strength = 120 points of damage, the weapon can be poisoned and cause more damage. Average per hit damage is 16.5 without backstab.
    multiclassed fighter/thief -- (1d10+3, +2 weapon specialization, +2 gauntlets of weapon expertise) X 5 + 8 = 93 points of damage. Average per hit damage is 17.5 without backstab.
    monk -- 1d20, +4 gauntlets of crushing, +8 strength = 32 points of damage. Average per hit damage is 23.5.

    Per round of damage has too many variables to determine without narrowing it down. At high levels, the fighter/thief and kensai/thief will have 2½ attacks per round, perhaps as many as 4½ with dual wielding and using specific equipment -- the fighter/thief will be able to double that for short periods. The monk will have four attacks per round. The assassin will have between one and three attacks per round depending on their choice of equipment and skills -- they will also be able to double the number of attacks for short periods.

    By the end of the game the thac0 should be approximately: -3 for kensai/thief, 1 for fighter/thief, 2 for assassin, -7 for monk. Lower is better.

    Now how about those numbers with a cleric/thief with whatwasitnow holy power? The one that made the cleric as a "juggernaut of destruction"?

    If you already know, then let me know...But I've already started a überlong game which'll be for the most part of chapter 2 of SoA as a solo assassin (I'm just crazy enough of getting a rep of 1 and start killing oh about few hundred Amnish Soldiers, dozens of Amnish Centurions and as many Cowled Wizards as possible)
