We knew Belkar was evil from the fact that he was totally unaffected by a casting of "Unholy Blight" (see the strip mentioned above). Even a character who is neutral on the Good / Evil axis would take partial damage from that spell. We also knew that he was not lawful from the time the lawyer tried to serve him with papers -- he said flat out " . . . I'm not Lawful!"

So really, the only question was Neutral Evil or Chaotic Evil. Aside from the recent strip in the afterlife, is there any previous strip wherein the Chaotic portion was firmly stated?

Dangit! My memory is usually better than that! That cinches it, then, and long before this recent strip. Let's see what we've got here, then:

Roy: Lawful Good (stated flat out.)

Elan: Chaotic Good (also stated flat out.)

    Belkar: Chaotic Evil (same)

Durkon: Good, probably Lawful but I can't recall any specific mention of this.

Haley: Not Evil, highly unlikely to be Lawful, but I'm drawing a blank otherwise in terms of strip specific references.

Varsuvius: Again, not Evil, but that's all I've got in terms of references.

Well, that latest strip was impressive. First one in ages that had me laughing.

Hmm... It's curious Roy doesn't picture himself with a sword.

Not really. He's new to the whole "dying" thing, has been occupied with things up to this point that precluded sitting down for an afterlife philosophy session, and was not holding his sword when he died. He probably just didn't think of it.

Rich will probably deal with it in the next strip.
Roy: "Hey, how come you have a sword?"
    Grandfather: "How come you don't? :p "

This is probably going to get me completeley butchered but is there anyone else around here who thinks that these afterlife strips have sort of sucked? The humour is not funny and it's not even witty enough for me to appreciate. While oots is not usually the kind of stuff that makes me outright laugh I still appreciate the (usually) witty humour. These latest episodes though have been disappointments. Hopefully the quality will improve which I'm quite sure that it will.

Don't really see an issue with the sword myself. If you were going to paradise would you feel a need to bring a greatsword along?

I'm also getting bored of the afterlife story arc. There were a couple of chuckles, but I'm past ready for it to move back to the main arc.

Fel, you should take up fortune telling as a profession. You're spot on with that prediction!

But yes, certainly time to return to the real world (used in the vaguest of terms).

I think they should ditch the main story and stick Roy in Sigil.

    But that's just me.

Pfft. I just watch too much TV and have read too many books not to know good storytelling. Plus Rich likes to leave gaps to close. ;)

But returning to the real world will have to wait at least half a strip. They've got to show Roy panicking for a while (and eventually either getting calmed down or rushing off to do something, of course) first before they get back to what happened in those "103 days, 8 hours, 17 minutes, and 9 seconds". :D

Well, for those who had been saying the afterlife arc went on for too long, your wish has come true! I, personally, wish he'd stayed with the afterlife...

I used to love OotS, and I thought the entire Paladin arc (including the Oracle, Cliffport, and the attack on Azure City) was brilliant. The last 20 or so comics, however, have been a bit of a letdown. I thought the afterlife ones were alright, certainly not Rich's best but I enjoyed them more than Morgoroth did. Those last few strips on the boat, however, are IMO the nadir of the series. Didn't even elicit a smile, and completely uninteresting turn of events, especially with the "what has been going on in those 3 months?" The answer being, apparently, "not much". What a letdown.

Now I know the comic has had its ups and downs, so I'm hoping things will get interesting (and less predictable) soon. In the meantime I've suddenly realised I've taken a great liking to Erfworld. Every other strip manages to take me completely by surprise. Kudos to Rich Burlew for hosting it.

Yay! Is it me, or does Haley's return correspond to an approximate 1000% increase in comic quality? Since the battle, it's all been a bit lame.

Just in time for the plotchange. The afterlife had its moments. I wonder how long it will take for Haley to meet the halforc ninja. Poor Elan, it is all his fault.

It's not just you Magpie, Haley is the heart of OotS.

I've personally nothing to complain about the latest comics, but if they'd only released more frequently... waiting for 1½ weeks for one strip isn't my idea of a webcomic. :(

I finally received my OoTS books in the mail yesterday - it only took Ape Games 8 months to deliver them.

I was a little disappointed by Start of Darkness and On the Origin of PCs - they filled in some back story but the humour wasn't anywhere near the level of the regular comics.
