I still like the "Ashcroft or McCarthy?" poll better.

    50 % here...

This poll stinks a bit of an attempt to smear Gore, though (nothing to do with the pictures at the top, you see). After all, is it a sin if someone reads the same books you do? I agree with most of those statements anyway. It's just that I'm not convinced bombing places is the best solution.

We could say it just stinks and leave it at that, especially the pictures at the top. If someone on this board posted something like this about Bush, I'm sure his supporters would be complaining all over the boards about it.

Could be that this has become a very conservative forum over the last two years.

**falls over laughing until he realizes it probably wasn't meant to be a joke**

Are you kidding? We have far fewer Conservative voices here than at any time I've been an SP'er.

I thought it was a funny site. Can't you guys take a joke and laugh at yourselves? Or at least at Al Gore.

    Chandos...
...are you serious? There's probably 10 Bush bashings per every Dem bashing posted here. If I spent my time complaining about every time Bush was bashed, made fun of, maligned or lied about on these forums...I'd have to quit my day job.

Tal...how much could you pay me to become a full-time Bush apologist?

Er, I would think it would become more funny after that realization. But I'm strange like that.

Except, nowadays, the majority of the Democrats here is pretty much the same stuff as the republicans, with the exception that they doesn't like to be talked against, so when the conservatives open up their mouth they just bend over and shut up.

Much like it have been the last six years in politics. Strange how it goes, eh?

Why should Democrats want to laugh at Al Gore? I mean, the guy lost the (disputed) election (tho not the popular vote) mostly due to the media's complicity in a conservative effort to make him a laughing stock. The media really went out of their way to sell him as that wooden dude who invented the internet. And as a result we've been stuck with W ever since. Not really a laughing matter, I'm afraid...

And the similarities between Gore and the Unabomber? Both of them write in long sentences? Both of them are concerned about the environment? Both of them write about social tensions brought about by new technologies? I'm afraid that the list of people who could be described this way is just a bit more extensive than just these two...

HS - IF any member compared Bush to a convicted terrorist on these boards, you guys would be filling Tal's mail with complaints. Because this is not in Whatnots, and in the Alley, I'm taking it to mean that it is supposed to be serious content, rather than just as a mild jest. If it was George's pix next to the Unabomber, or Bin Laden, or Hilter...

Oh, come on, I didn't mean to start a partisan war again... If I thought it is so crappy I wouldn't have done it. Anyway, I'd agree with Bion - Gore and the Unabomber are far from the only ones who could have written that, or at least agree with it.

I apoligize. I was torn between posting it in Whatnots or here in the Alley. I finally decided on the Alley because it involved a political figure.

I agree, if anything like that was posted about Bush, I'd have been bombarded with messages to remove it. I still remember the outrage when the completely rational and argumented Bush/Hitler comparison was merely linked in some thread a few years ago and I didn't want to remove it.

I got like 20 outraged complaints over that, and 5 people or so threatened they would leave for good if I didn't remove the link. I didn't, because there was nothing whatsoever about it that would require such censorship. And I said back then that if anyone posted a similar comparison involving Clinton, I'd have allowed it too. So I don't really have a problem with this thread.

The only difference now is that I didn't get 20 messages from outraged dems threatening that they'll leave the boards if I don't remove the link. Also, those 5 Bush supporters back then actually made good on their threat, and left.

Neutrality of a political discussion forum is obviously an alien concept to some people. Anyway, this should be in AoLS. Moving.

You did not start anything - I was only agreeing with you. How does one start a partisan war in the middle of a thread that was obviously partisan to begin with? ;)

I guess it was my bad to take this as nothing more than a joke to begin with. I never viewed it as a genuine personal attack on Al Gore. It seemed too absurd for anyone to take seriously...kinda like linking to a site that shows pictures of Bush next to pictures of a chimp. Therefore, if I was laughing about something that others found truly offensive, I extend my apologies.

That was a nice apology, and very big of you, HS. And one of the reasons I have a lot of respect for you. :)

17%? I guess I can't tell the difference between a political blowhard and a nut job.

Mmm, I scored an amazing 33%. I can't say it surprises me that Gore and the Una say similar things about the impact of our society on the world, etc. Despite one being a politician with the personality of cardboard, and the other being a man with psychopathic tendencies, they're both highly intelligent men.

As for Gore and 2000... I really wish McCain had won the Republican primaries. He's a smart man, with good morals and a level head. Our country would be in a much better position with him as president. I think Gore would've done as bad a job as Bush, but in different aspects. I can't back that up with anything but a gut feeling, though.
