Atari PR has been contacted by FiringSquad and given some answers. Or rather some babble that doesn't answer anything but shuts people's mouth. At least that's what PR thinks, I guess. At any rate, here goes a quote:

Neverwinter Nights 2, the highly-anticipated sequel from Obsidian Entertainment, is rapidly approaching release in September and features an enormous new single-player campaign, gorgeous visuals and effects and new gameplay. However, what the mod community is sure to find most striking are the upgrades in-store with the new editor.
Obsidian has spent painstaking time both improving and adding to the functionality of the Neverwinter Nights 2 toolset, which will ship with the game. In addition, Obsidian has added a fair amount of backwards compatibility into the Neverwinter Nights 2 toolset thus allowing mod developers the ability to convert significant portions of their Neverwinter Nights creations directly into the new Neverwinter Nights 2 toolset.

The vast majority of Neverwinter Nights mods in development are by the mod community, and the current and future development of modules, conversions or add-ons planned for Neverwinter Nights will continue to be supported.

Atari understands the importance and popularity of the mod community, which has supported the Neverwinter Nights franchise for years. Atari remains as committed to the franchise and the growing members of the community as ever and we’ve still got quite a bit more news in-store for everyone between now and September. Our goal is to make Neverwinter Nights 2 one of the most compelling RPG experiences seen in years by also making it one of the most mod-friendly games ever.

For the whole thing, head to FiringSquad.

Amazing, but not suprising. They were able to use a whole lot of words to say absolutely nothing at all about the pulling the plug on NWN.
Well it was great while it lasted, and the mod community can still amke loads of mods with the tool set.

[IMG] Thats what spin is about of course, shed light on the positive aspects and ignore the negative aspects. Of course if you can completely divert the question elsewhere like all "good" politicians, journalist do then you never need fear answering something that will shed the truth on something thats has a negative tinge.

The real problem was not the pulling of NWN#1 support but WHEN they did it, while things were still being 'cooked'. They should have simply said nothing new to be started for premium mod's for nwn#1.. NWN will have slowly gone into the background while NWN2 came to the fore.
It's hard to believe atari have been around for so long and still havent learnt what it's like to be decent to the people that work for them and for the people the products are made for.
Then again this new atari , is not the atari of old at all, it's just the name.

The PR guy probably got a pay rise.

New Atari needs to look a bit further into the future to where all the former fans realise everything about their dirty games.

    Or not.
