Ok i have two questions... first was it better for me to trust saemon when escaping from the asylum? i know you get that whole quest for the shark people so i would think its better plus you get that blade you can forge (is that the equalizer blade?)... also when in the underdark is there anyway to destroy those portals that keep producing elementals or do i have to suffer through it everytime someone gets feared or confused and run around the place? Just wondering. Peace.

I my experience, it's allways better with more exp (the more, the merrier :D ) and the equaliser is an overall good blade against any evil or good opponent. ;)

The portals can be destroyed, but it requires that you release the mage that has been trapped with an inprisonment spell underground. If you don't have the Freedom spell, you can buy it from the little guys (duergar?) near the beginning at the bottom of the map. Then just walk straight up where the roads divide, and cast it there, and he will come out of nowhere. ;)

    Good luck.

The portal are not limitless, I don't know the certain number of elements but they're surely not unlimited. Try to use them as experience boosters, after all the elements are quite easy.

Yes, I remember standing there and hacking at every new elemental that arrived, till they were no more.

But doing that Wizard quest is still suggested, can't remember what the reward was, though... :hmm:

The portals each spawn 10 elementals which I generally kill for XP. There's around 200,000 XP available if you kill them all.

If you do the mage quest you get a few decent scrolls (Time Stop being one of them) and the Helm of Death, although you can keep insisting he gives you a better reward then kill him and get everything he managed to retrieve the other side of the portals.

Dude, the blade that Saemon gives you is part of the Vorpal Sword, not the Equalizer. Keep it, the Vorpal isnt that bad. ;)

If you do opt to keep the Silver Sword, you will eventually be confronted by a Githanyki (sp??) as he will want it back.

Keeping that sword is a little had to justify as a good character, particularily a lawful good, but hey it's definitely worth the effort if you can figure out some good justification for not giving it back.

I justify it by saying that I can be sure that I'll put it to use against evil, whereas the Githyanki...

I dunno if this is off-topic, but are Githyankis evil? And yes, the Vorpal blade rocks, usually end up using the ravager +6 by the end of ToB though....

"Yep, Githyankis are evil." I'm certain that they are chaotic but I'm not sure if they are evil.

Still you can't say "I'm going to do good with this so nya!" becuase that's a pathetic reason. I might as well break into someone's house, nick their stuff and declare that I'm going to do more good for the world than they ever would with it.

As far as I can see, the blade causes you alot of trouble. If was responsiable for the death of all the sailors on the ship you take from spellhold and you're damned if you're just going to hand it over. They should have just asked for it then without killing everyone.

I'm pretty certain that, at least in their original incarnation in the Fiend Folio, they were Chaotic Neutral. Them and the Slaadi were some very cool additions to monsters (as compared to, say, the Flumph...). Flinds also showed up there, to name another BG/BG2 monster, and I think Spectators (aka Spectator Beholders in the BG2 game).

I think the Gith wildmage who confronts you once you get back to town makes a comment about being from "Limbo", which if I remember my AD&D planar knowledge is the plane of Chaotic Neutrals.

I'm a little out of touch with current D20 stuff, but I think this is still accurate. I suppose if nothing else you could hit the Gith from the Illithid city with a "Know Alignment" to find out for sure.

I've always considered the Gith evil because first of all they show up on the ship and butcher the piates no matter what. And then they strand you in the Mind Flayer city after you've agreed to help them out. Doesn't strike me as the actions of a good race by any means.

You can also only get the Wave halberd if you go with Saemon IIRC.

I looke at the alignments of the Githyanki in SK and most of them are evil, either lawful or chaotic. There is at least one neutral one though.

That's correct. Prince Villynaty (I know that's spelled wrong - but it's the rebel prince) has the head for the Wave Halberd, so if you skip the Shaugin City, you don't get it. (You also don't get the cloak of Cheese.)

Options for the Wave Halberd include killing the prince like the king asks, or betraying the king and then either pickpocketing or killing the price after the king is dead. I really don't there's much of an alignment conflict no matter what you do here. Neither the king nor the prince seem to be "good" so it's killing evil either way...
