I want to start a new game, with a multi-class mage/thief, for a solo game.
I tried to create one, but the result wasn't what I want: only 39 HP (for CON 15 ?)
    My stats was:
    STR 12
    DEX 19
    CON 15
    WIS 10 or something
    INT 18
    CHA 8
    Race: elven, male.

Another problem: he could carry 50 pounds, and Imoen, with STR 10, 70. Why?
Sugestions? With this stats I must run away from a mephit

Well, first of all, you got unlucky. Bad roll, bad HP. I'd start it again id I were you, and if you haven't gone too far. Also, I think you get an extra HP pre level if you put it to 16 constitution (before lvl 10). Also, up your strength a bit, so you can carry more. I don't know about that thing with you and imoen, I'd just up your strength.

Perhaps the Imoen thing is a racial difference. I would bet they adjust in game that humans can carry more per strength point than elves.

For as far as I know there is no racial difference for the amount of weight you can carry, because my elven mage with strength 10 could always carry 70 lb. As for the hitpoints you probably got a bad roll like Shade said before. If you set the difficulty to easy or normal you always get the highest amount of hitpoints when you level up so you can try that.

Re Roll your character....and make him/her a F/M/T! That way you can get ** in weapons, better THACO, better HP...ect

It takes a little longer to level up, but not that much longer. A more versitle character by far. I tried using a F/M and a M/T before. I found that the F/M/T worked better. Of coure that's just my opinion, Yours could be different.

Its not easy to get a M/T raised. Melee is going to be a problem but you don't have to melee and you are going to die if you think you do. Once your thief can do X5 backstab you will do better but you aren't going to tear through a hoarde of enemies without using some guile. You are going to have to use your spells. You are going to have to divide your enemies. You are going to have to choose the battle grounds. Mirror image, Stonskin and Sunfire will be some your most used spells. Don't forget simple things like improved invisibility and always save a shadow door spell or invis potion for an escape. Haste is nice, speed potions will help alot..as will a good missile weapon to pull targets away from a group.
Put some more strength on him/her...you need the extra carrying capacity and the added thaco and damage bonuses will really help your backstab totals...try for a 15 or 16 strength as a minimum. If you are going solo, you really do need high ability scores all around.

The decent strength is nice for carying stuff out of the opening dungeon, but hardly a requirement. As long as you max Dex and Int for your (M/T) and give yourself 16 Con (and I'd say decent Wis for saving throws), you will be good to go. After you get out, you can steal stuff for fun and profit and buy yourself the Girdle of Whatever Giant Strength to get that stat up to a more useable number.

I like a different belt. The inertia barrier one that gives ac vs missles and very good resistance to almost all damage, but strength belts are a good option too. My point was the tactics are most important, but in order to solo, you gotta have better than average scores in almost every area.

[IMG] all i would like to say is if you are going to play a mage\thief you should be a gnome not only for mage specialist but the thief part doesnt really need to have a high dexterity in that class combination...always nice though...

oh yea, and get a short sword or something you can backstab with so whenever you get the spell Mislead, you can backstab again and again and again...
