    After that battle with Ottoman Turks in which the Serbian nobility was slaughtered? Looks like the girl was lucky to get to the battleground unmolested by Turks, as she looks intact, and the guy is in trouble, as he's wearing a knight's girdle, a golden one, meaning he's an important local Christian pundit, meaning you know what, given the Turks won... Just a digression. Oh right, the sign on his shield is the royal Serbian one. Ooops... His trouble looks like a big one.

    Actually, technically, the Serbians won the battle, as the turks had to draw back. However, the Serbians never fully recovered after this battle, and it is considered the beginning of the end. It took two more big battles for them to capitulate though. I guess that is Serbian's Grunwald - not the outcome, but the importance on people's psyche.
    As it has always been with the turks and the Balkans Slavs though, their army was at the least twice as big as the Serbian one.
    And yes, you are right, this portrait is purely fictional and romanticized. You know, women were never let untouched or unscathed when... you get the drift.
    And yeah, now they want to give back holy Serbian Orthodox land back to turkish offspring in the Balkans, after centuries of bloody and heroic fighting.
