They can't wear Plate armor, can't Master weapons and their Rage Sux0r.
Sure they may have some extra HPs but a Paladin or Pure Ranger would make a better tank, the paladin with Carsomyr and the Ranger with free dual wield slots.
A pure fighter would be even better. If you really want to 'rage' choose the Berserker with Grandmastery in a weapon.
Barbarians have more HPs but they get hit even more, which amounts to almost the same thing.

    Ho ho ho, what's this?!
My Barbarian kicks ass like no one else!
He has more hitpoints than any character in the game even more than Korgan, He has the same armor class as anyone else, -5, if I look in the info of my character it says I'm good for 37% of the kills in the game (I'm at chapter 3) and his total kills are a 125 higher than Minsc's, who is with me from the start.
My savingthrows are all at 0 except for spells.
My thaco main hand is 0 and my off hand is 1.
If this isn't the ultimate tank, no one is!
    Barbarians RULE!!!!!!!!
Ps Barbarians don't get scared when they are in their rage, berserkers do!

[IMG] I´ve never been able to understand why people play other characters than dc fighter-thiefs or at least dc fighter-mages, or pure thieves or pure mages or mc fighter-thiefs, mage-thief or or or or or or or or or or or or or

    a) do you not care anything about anything other than your percious dual-classing. I have never heard you say anything good about stuff other than Dual-Classed Characters.

    b) Single Classes ROOOOOL... lots of nice experience... don't lose abilities *suddenly*... and it is MORE likely for a person to concentrate on a single class.

    c) Barbarians KICK F**CK*N' ARSE! they are EXCEPTIONALLY powerful in a rage situation. And about the no more than specialisation... Rangers and Paladins get the same... yet i don't here many people complain! so why you? Not everyone has to be GRAND MASTER in a flippin' weapon... it just actually allows for the Char to be able to use more weapons!

[IMG] I picked a Barbarian for my group due to the number of vampires in the game. When raged, he's immune to level drain. So with my Undead Hunter and a Barbarian, I have two front-line fighters and I don't have to go running to the temple for restoration all the time.

You can let Jaheira cast protection from negative energy, it lasts just as long as a rage (5 rounds) And you can let Aerie and Jaheira cast restoration, so getting back to the temple every time isn't needed. You can also buy 10 restoration scrolls, just in case...

Minsc is a ranger with vampires as natural enemy. He has ** with maces - why don´t you just give him the mace of disruption +2 (that makes him ummune against level drain)?. Far easier than creating a new char ;)

Well, for one thing you can't get the Mace of Disruption until you've dealt with the Vampires at least once.

about that dual-classing issue, whats the point of dual classing if you
1.cant use the original choice for AGES
    2. the original choice never goes further in levels ever again
whereas in multiclasses, both choices go up in levels together. this thought is really pissing me off. WHY DUAL CLASSES? HOW ARE THEY GOOD?

Aaah, fodder :D I´m playing only dc chars I´ve already dualclassed in BG-1 so I can hardly remember all the waiting you´re talking of :D

I always chose the fighter class as my first class and then dualed to THIEF or, yes, to a mage or cleric. So I have the fighters punch (grandmastery and good HP) with the THIEFS skills (thiefs forever!) or a mage´s or cleric´s spellcasting abilities. I think that´s a good deal and well worth the waiting :D - changing class in lvl-6 with 32.000 XP on a fighter that´s acceptable though it was some kina tough in BG-1 :D when you import the char in BG-2 he is dualclassed, you should have grandmastery, you don´t have to wait for anything but worthy enemies and good weapons. DC CHARS KICK ASS! ;)

Get em' Ragusa. Don't let them put all of the dual class fanatics (like me :D)on these boards down. Yeah!!

But seriously, the wait? Oh please. The benefits are worth far more than the wait.

As far as the "never gain levels again" argument, if you would dual them at the right level to maximize their first class, you wouldn't need to gain anymore experience in those classes. A fighter gains some after level 9, but not enough to make or break the game.

And multi characters (if you've ever bothered to check) are not as good as a properly dualed character. They only compare at lower levels. I know from much experience with both. Especially in high level games like this one. Multi anything to mage or cleric (druid) misses out on a lot of spell levels. For example, Jan Jansen can only cast up to level 6 spells, where as myself and Imoen get to cast level 8 spells. That's an improtant difference. A muti class character won't have the HP of a proper dual, they won't have the thaco. Hell, multi character misses out on a lot of things. That's why I prefer them. Or maybe I'm wrong...

[IMG] :D YES - DC PLAYERS UNITE! :D You´re totally right, Crawl! If you dualclass at the right time you don´t miss anything. Even if you dual at a low level like lvl 6, from fighter to whatever, as I did, your char is still a formidable killing mashine <hurray!>. mc chars are nice but no match for a dc char - especially in terms of fighting proficiencies - a notable factor.

For all you single-class fanatics. . . ranger/cleric in melee dual weilding w/ iron skins and blade barrier. Good luck!
