Ara: ty, I try to put the effort in even if I have intense memory loss from  and greasy fast food, lol!!!

Just remembered somthing else from saturday night, might have been friday night, or even early sunday morning... watched this cop car screech to a hault right in front of me in town and this guy started running, he was quite big and made off like a cheeta, n e way this cop jumped out of the car and yelled "OI COME ERE!" which at the time I thought was quite amusing, but then I realised it was this sweet little blonde and she was the size of an oopa loompa! Best thing was she totally creamed his face into the road and we all cheered cause he got taken down by a girl half his size!!!

Bah! I'm away for two days and people start speaking french in BOM? Who said french was hard? I use it daily it ain't hard at all.

And huuumm, I've never ever heard '' le petit mort '' must be some foreinger thing.

@ Chevalier: It's the Parisian who overuse ''petit'' and other french speaking countries, it's used far less often.

Google translator also says it's la mort. But I've always known it as le mort. Even le morte in Old French, but always le... Must capture a Frenchman and roast his feet until he explains this.

Edit: Hmm... Ofelix. Come here... Hehe.

Am I the only one to notice that we keep insulting someone in this thread? And I know who's fault it is.

    You little SoB... :D

You're more right than you know... :shake:

Everyone knows that it's supposed to be French slang for orgasm, right? I'm surprised Ofelix didn't know this, unless it's gone out of use in France now. Still, wikipedia could be wrong, but I'm sure I've heard it somewhere before. And it's definitely la petite mort.

:heh: I never intended such a petite innuendo to inflate into a full-blown discussion of French grammar, but such are the perils of the RBP!

Yeah, Magpie, I know what it means. Or didn't you notice when I said it was fun? Personally, it's always amused me they would refer to something that they're so open about as a 'little death' when most of them aren't even willing to die for their own country.

Yeah, I saw that you and Ara seemed to know it... But I kinda figured that chev and Uytuun would too (being linguistic types), and Ofelix is French (I think), and didn't have a clue...

I suppose that shows the divide between people who do language for academic reasons, and people like me who like to be able to swear without anyone else knowing! :D

And the supposed similarity between death and orgasm has been a theme in literature for ages; certainly Shakespeare referred to it. Perhaps that's why the grammar's so messed up - it could be a really old French expression.

@ Felinoid: everyone's seen this, right?

Always a pleasure to help the entente cordiale

    @Magpie:
    Oh, that's hilarious!

P.S. Ofelix is from Montreal (or so he says), so I think he would be referred to as French-Canadian. :hmm:

I knew it, Magpie, that's why I said set expression. Linguistics know about fun too you know. :p And I seem to remember a painting that's called le petit mort, yes, I'm pretty sure about that. Shall we nitpick more about French grammar? It certainly makes MY day. :p :D

(No really, I suggest we switch to a less tormenting language...sweet, beloved English..)

Oh yeah, like English isn't full to the brim with random crap. I'm from the US, and even I hate English. As a conglomeration of other languages it's chock full of contradictory rules and other nonsense. :p
(For example, look at what I just wrote!) :hahaerr:
