    Hi,

And I read somewhere that Cavaliers can still use throwing axes! Azures Edge comes to mind, one of the most useful weapons against undead in the game if preceeded by a greater malison for those tougher undead. Worked wonders for me in the graveyard against all sorts of undead before I had that mace.

Can they still use throwing daggers as well?

    Cheers,

    WittyNewt

Monks are definitely not the coolest, but they are bad ass. I enjoyed playing my Monk the most, at high levels you can enter an area and basically have him on his own wipe it out. When I walked next to silver dragon, hit quivering palm and hit: watching it die I produced the biggest smirk ever. I believe that gave me as much satisfaction as finishing the game... He also cleared Drow city almost on his own, with Viconia healing him Edwin just doing breach and stuff both at the back and stuff (the rest of the party would die, they wouldn’t make their saving throws against mages and die, Monks tend to make them).

I personally liked the kensai, no duel or muilti. In my opinion, the coolest fighters are those who are nimble with light/no armor and use two swords.

    Elven Archer.

Kivan simply rocked in BG1, and now the archer class is amazing. Just to experiment, I started one at level 15 (TOB new game). With a short bow +2, as well as some other enhancing items, he had 5 attacks per round, and a THACO of *-15*!!

This is enough to hit any enemy in the game on all but critical misses. Plus, the Gesen Bow is one of the best weapons in the game.

I like F/M/T the best. You can do ANYTHING! Scout ahead, fight up front, cast spells from the back. But most imporntatnly you can go off on your own without any NPC and still kick ass. A great mix of high level abilities to boot. The only drawback is no level 9 spells.

Yes, Cavaliers can use both throwing daggers and throwing axes. This is because those are considered melee weapons that can be thrown, rather than ranged weapons. So that skirts the prohibition on ranged weapons nicely (a bug maybe?); this also goes for kensai's and other classes with the same limitation. My favorite out of the above throwing weapons? Fire Tooth, a throwing dagger that returns after throwing, it's like throwing a +3 bastard sword that hits the enemy and returns.

    Hi,

I have used Azures Axe a lot but never paid much attention to the damage since I am looking for the instant kill factor for undead. I seem to remember that thrown weapons get the strength bonus to damage in PNP. Does that translate to BG games as well?
(frantically scanning the BG manual and I can't see a comment about this)

Also, Does a kensai get the additional kit damage bonus added onto this?

If true then a kensai throwing firetooth could do some serious damage in a round since these weapons get two attacks per round as someone else mentioned.

    Cheers,

    WittyNewt.

[IMG] I cannot remember who said it on this board but in a post he best described the greatest class...Monk...a "Juggernaut of Destruction". At early levels he/she is weak but they level-up quickly and are unstoppable with a few items. I've tried to play other chars but i keep going back to them. Probably since 1st edition D&D rules my char was a monk.

Just outta curiousity for NWN/3rd edition how comparible is the Monk as in BG2? or 1st edition D&D/Oriental Adventures?

The coolest class of all is of course the thief - irrelevant of pure thief, swashbuckler, assassin or even the not just as good bounty hunter - THIEFS RULE ! As for bards - excellent support characters, especially the skald and the jester.

The cavalier kit is my fav fighter class, quickly followed by the kensai and the archer (of course - all of halfling race ;) - and especially in the case of the arcer the perfect justification to choose shortbows as a main weapon).

MC fighter-thief and fighter-mage are cool to play (unfortunately there is no mc swashbuckler-mage :( ), just like the pure mages. A wild mage might be interesting too, just like monks.

Kensai is the ultimate in melee. As far as offense is concerned, Kensai is the most offensive kit of all, maybe?
Kensais get both additional damage and added attacks per round. Even faster than monks with the right weapon.

    [IMG] Hi,

Well I know this is not strictly a valid BG class but.....

My fav class is currently my mage dualed to kensai.

Dualled from mage to kensai at lvl 4 (originally lvl 3 but this lost me a stoneskin)

Everything he wants to hit he hits and everything that wants to hit him misses.
The standard monsters (vamps etc) typically only get a one round chance before he kills them and those two stoneskins make all the difference. Add in the blur, mirror image etc and the fact that he has a -3 AC already (only just into chapter 2) and you can begin to see why he is good. Plus he effectively has a "use any mage item ability".

His fighting skills are going to continue to improve and I only hope that he doesn't get too boring to play! ;)

    Cheers,

    WittyNewt

I may get blasted for saying this, but I like Ranger-Clerics, also, because ofthat bug that let's you learn both Cleric spells and Druid spells all the way up to seventh level. I'm surprised nobody has done anything to correct it, because now you have a cleric who is almost too powerful. On top of that, you can dual wield both Flail of the Ages and Crom Faeyr, and now you have a spell-casting, blunt weapon killing machine.
