Does it count as a "light" weapon? I'm thinking of creating a thief character as my party diplomat, and tossing in a level or two of fighter or ranger. I'd love to use sneak attack with him/her, especially with a Great Cleaver.

Will weapon finesse apply, since it uses the hand axe feat?

It should count as a light weapon. If it does? Who knows.

A handaxe SHOULD count as a light weapon, and like all light weapons, should be finessable. It's hard to tell what's always ported properly in this game, but I think you should be safe.

Well, now I'm more confused. I created a fighter and planned to dual-wield a pair of the excellent Great Cleavers you find in the game. Problem is, once I did this, the fighter's attack hit the dirt. Up to that point, he had one great cleaver in one hand, and a single axe in the other. The single ax, I can safely assume, does indeed count as a light weapon. But now I'm almost certain that the Great Cleaver does not count as a single/hand axe, as I'd been lead to believe.

So now I'm wondering - what proficiency does the Great Cleaver use? You'd think it would be just a standard battle axe, being that it's one handed; but it does so much damage I wonder if it's the great axe feat.

    Anyone know?

It should be an alternative battle axe.

Great Cleaver definately uses the hand axe proficiency, but it is not a light weapon; therefore, not finessable. (It does weigh 10 lbs, after all.)
