Basically yes: The shadow-thiefs are considered the good/ neutral path and joining Bohdi is considered evil. Mind that, when you join Bohdi some good aligned NPCs in your party may leave, namely Keldorn and Mazzy.

As it happened, my first good and evil parties managed to do them the other way around. So it doesn't really matter, as long as you don't have any npcs who leave the party.

    Mazzy bails? Really?

I really need to play through Bg2 with an evil party. I've been itching to drill down all the cowled geeks for a long time.

I think that'll be me extra credit project fer next week...

this is not exactly related to the question but rather in connection with what ragusa answered. "shadow thieves for good and bodhi for evil", if my pc is a paladin or a ranger, would i be considered "fallen" for choosing bodhi, or is the "falling event" connected more with the reputation?

Choosing Bodhi you will be fallen? No.

Yes, it is the low rep which really hurts.

I've never truly considered Bodhi, you don't get the nifty mace of disruption that way do you? Do you get something to replace it?

I think you can get the mace of disruption when you side with Bodhi. Just go to the blood pool in her lair as normal. You don't get anything particularly to write home about in attacking the Shadow Thieves. There's a +3 throwing axe, but it's not as good as Azuredge.

The Rifthome Axe +3 is very useful against Iron/Adamantite Golems, coz they get stuck in doorways and are only harmed by +3 or more.

Too bad I sided with the shadow theives, those adamantite golems are so annoying. =/
