    Welcome, ladies and gents.

Pop-ups in general are really a minor nuisance, and in most cases, understandable.

Some pop-ups, however, are positively hell-spawned. Like one of them that sometimes comes up when I start or refresh Sorcerers Place; The damned thing opens up own pop-ups and there's no way to stop them.
After a while there's twenty-some windows on the screen, some of the blighters are opening up those annoying
"Do you trust Idiot Software Inc to download a load of dung to your system"-screens.
    Less could drive one mad.

Any own experiences of the worst pop-ups?

Yeah, yeah, but this was about extreme, evil pop-ups like the one mentioned. And on other sites too, on Internet in general.

    oops...
this topic is going to get removed by Tal I think....

Use Opera - very good (free) browser which blocks all pop ups - its fab and about a million times nicer to use than explorer or netscape/mozilla

Argh! It's not about pop-ups on this site, for crying out loud! It's just about hearing something about others who've had nasty encounters with pop-ups. Story-telling, like.

    Man.

OK, OK, we get it already. Chill, dude.

The only pop-ups that are worth the effort of being annoyed at, IMO, are the animated ones that you can't close or minimize or push to the background until they've run their course. I haven't had a problem with unwanted installations, and others simply come up as windows to be closed eventually.

However, annoyance is as far as I'll allow this junk to get to me. I'll save my real anger for something worth the effort. Remember this:

[IMG] Though many annoying kinds of pop-ups have been served on SP in the past, I have never encountered any such that would spawn new ones indefinitely after they were closed, nor did anyone report any such ones to me. Usually people with cookies turned off complain that they're getting them on every page, which IS true... As long as you have cookies blocked, there is no way for SP to track whether you've been shown them already or not, and it always defaults to "not shown", so they pop on every page. Very simple solution is to turn enable cookies and then you won't see another for a few hours.

Anyway, the new SP design will enable adless subscription for those who are interested. I'm moving this to SS and closing it since it is practically identical to the other pop-up topics there.
