Have you ever had a gaming dry spell? I just can't get into a game for some reason. Its been like this for almost two weeks now. I Bought SimCity 4, loaded it. Started to play it, but I got bored rather quickly. Same happened with Sta Trek Deep Space Nine: The Fallen, Baldur's Gate, The Sims and IceWind Dale II. I just can't get past the first 10 minutes of a game. Is there something wrong with me?
No, strike that question, I'm afraid of what you people might say!
Have any of you ever gone throught times like this?

I know what you mean... it has happened for me, too. It has happened to books as well, and THAT was hell, seeing as 90% of my time was spent reading at one point of my life...

You'll get over it, trust me...

It's hell, not being able to get into a game... but it'll pass. In time.

Well yeah. IWD2 for example lost my halfway through the IceTemple. Left the game lying around for 3 months. But now it has gotten me hooked again.

Only book sofar that really didn't catch me is Isaac Asimov's Foundation. Didn't find it particularly interesting.

I know what you're talking about.

I just got over mine, though that was because of a huge amount of books I collected. But now I've started playing Street Wars again. Try playing a game you haven't played in a year or so

I had this for about 9 months while my computer's hard drive gradually got more and more corrupted.
I just didnt want to start any new games because i knew they'd crash and burn. Basically i just played lots of free games n demos.

Happens to me usually when I start replaying long RPG's. Sometimes I start to think up a cool plan to power through the game, and then I lose interest after the first dungeon.

It usually doesn't happen to me in new games; I tend to give the game a chance to prove itself worthy of my attention before tossing it aside. Although once, it did happen when I played some Warcraft-spawned game... just never found it captivating enough.

I've been playing computer games for as long as I can remember.. I learned english through police quest 1 (Aah, EGA graphics, those were the days..).. but at some point I got completely fed up with computer games. I didn't play at all for over a year, before I found my way back to it, slowly. Now I'm back to playing as much as I ever did, but my taste has changed.. now I play strictly rpg and "god" games (simcity). Before I played lots of sports and action games.

So I guess my point here is that if it bores you, don't do it. You'll get over it, probably. And if you don't, well, it bores you, so it's no big loss, is it?

Ill bet you start reading soon...
For a new addiction you could try Castle of the winds ( http://vengeance.et.tudelft.nl/cow/ ).
(The only place i could find to get it)
Or just wait. You will be cured. In time.

Being the kind of person who easily tires of part of a game that i can't pass (normally 10 attempts and i'm seriously pist) i tend to start several games at a time.

Bad idea. I get bored with one, go on to the next, get bored or stuck, start another, and rotate about games. At the moment i'm halfway through Thief2, somewhere in Sacrifice, Start of Kingpin, fighting Fyarr in Jedi Outcast, Just outside the prison complex of BG2, have Medieval Total War which i haven't started yet (only got it today for my buffday - 21st) and am currently paying lots of attention to land 3 of Black & White.

So, at the moment, i'm not in a dry spell. But when i get stuck at somepoint on all of these, i'll not know what to do next.

Any suggestions? I too am thirsting in this dry spell. I am sick of CRPGs. IWD II - I am in Targos and bored. IWD I - in Yxunomei's lair. NWN - still in training compound (can you believe it?) I will get back to these games, but I need something fresh.

[IMG] I get game type dry spells.

I play Starcraft and/or Age of Empires for weeks then all of a sudden I don't want to see a RTS game for a Month!

Then I play BG or some other RPG.

Sometimes it's the other way around.

Yeah, I go into them at regular intervals. At the moment, im starting to get over a bout of 'Gaming Dryness', I can play a game for nearly an hour without getting completely sick of it.
