Don't get all distraught over this, it isn't the first LOTR/Hobbit game and not the last either.

Good point. There will be cheap spinoffs, that's what happens with hollywood movies. Not much use in worrying about it... here in Sweden they're selling that old animated version in a DVD edition... That movie is not good, and charging $30 for just shows how insane this hype is. If it wasn't for the new LotR movie they would never even make a dvd version, let alone charge full price for it.

Interplay had a Lord of the Rings game, which was pretty good. Let's hope EA does something similiar.

Electronic Arts, when I hear this name I think of need for speed:hot pursuit or something like that but an RPG outragess, I guess we can hope its turns out good.

Whenever I hear EA I cringe, as I have seen nothing of that company but sports games. I personally will withhold judgement until I see some of the concepts. As long as they don't *try* to follow the adventures led in the books, it might turn out alright. They ought to do something that takes place before any of the books, that way they have some freedom, and maybe they can avoid defiling perfectly good literature. After all, one of the things I always liked about Tolkien's writings was that that was just about all there was. No crappy over-hyped games, or any such thing.

Actually, we DON"T know wheter it will be an RPG or not. But looking at the track record of EA, I would say it'll be an adventure game akin to Tomb Raider.

i have seen a preview of it. It is a RPG with quests. Not really role-playing with many choices. I heard in the first game Fellowship of the Ring you have to kill the witch king. It doesn't follow the story very well...

[IMG] I don't mind the fact that they are making a LotR game it's just it should not be made by them it should be made by Squaresoft they make good rpg game's (the Final Fantasy games) or if they are going to make it a war have the maker of Comand and Conquer make it and if they are going to make it like BG have it made by them. Another thing I hope the story doesn't get pushed to far down peoples throats.

Well, there's no doubt it'd sell, but what sort of game WOULD it be? certainly there'd be nothing like a *plot twist*, heaven forbid, and all the character interactions would be known.... In short, a game with no surprises: boring. And if they were to depart from the main plot of the canon, what sort of a LOTR-anything would that be? Well, in one word: sacrilege. The prospects don't look cheerful.
