I know this has a lot to do with if and how you play a rogue, but I was wondering how many of you regularly use the pickpocket feat on NPC's. Are the items you can find worth building on the skill? What lvl of pickpocketing is most effective?

I've personally never tried pickpocketing. But from what I've heard I don't think there are any items really worth pickpocketing. Most of them are generated randomly arn't they?

pickpocketing appears to be most worthwhile in the prologue...

Ned in the trading post has a "lcuky knucky" amulet that grants a +1 to all saving throws...

Ulbrec has a ring of protection +1

those items can be very helpful early on when you dont have much equipment...

after that, it is generally more trouble than it is worth, even if you max out your pickpocketing skill, and your dex...

but, for a neutral party that isnt killing everything, there are some nice items that can be gotten throughout the entire game that might be worth the effort...

I generally play evil parties, so once I am finished with a character or a group, I slaughter them all and collect their useless junk afterwards...

but, some of the story-essential NPCs cant be killed, and thus are occasionally worth pickpocketing...

I think there was a thread here a while back that detailed a few of the choice items that can be gotten later in the game from picking pockets... it might be worth a search to read thru that thread...

It's definatly worth the trouble. You can get some really cool items, and you can always sell them for lots of cash. Try to find out who you can and can't kill, so you can loot and kill everything!

pickpocket is a MUST if you want to play HOF, i suggest to have 5 points. potion of master thievery increases PP too, doesnt it?

ned in the gallaway tradepost got a luck-increasing amulet on him ... not only saving throws but luck+1 (not the same as luck spell, you can still add luck to the bearer of this amulet). in HoF, the amu has double effect ...

ALL your rolls will count +2 ... criticals, critical checkrolls, saving throws, damage (you will roll 3-x or 4-x and then bonus and str-modifier added ... awesome). in HoF i had a talos cleric designed as berserker with massive halberd of hate : critical hit on 16-20, dealing 80-120 damage with every 4th hit

[IMG] I tried pickpocketing everyone in Kuldahar and got a wand of fire, and a wand of cure moderate wounds (plus gems, gold, and a few other common magic items)... But I could never pickpocket Iselore, so I don't know if he has anything super-cool or not...

in the prologue if you pickpocket the sick mage in the big tend of whom ulbrec's wife tells you, you get a message that he wrote before he got sick. he used his divination skills to foresee that he will get sick and you will come and pcikpocket him. he also writes that he needs braehg (...) i think you get extra experience points for that and definitely some extra money, but i think it is one of the cutest little details in the game.
