[IMG] I think iwd2 would have been much more complete with npcs that can join your party, like in the bg series. Who thinks the game would have been better with npcs like in bg? (I know that it's one of the things that make iwd different from bg, but it would have been a great addition to this game)

gee, thats a no-brainer. not having npcs was a big let-down for me, being able to choose who joins your party was pretty good and having a fortess or something was good too. havin the npcs in your party protest when you did something evil/good was funny and when they fight amongst themselves.

No... I don't miss picking up NPCs... I think its much more challenging to form you'r own party, with every little detail... But I do miss the intrigues and alignment based conflicts... They were fun!!

EDIT - Especially the one with Edwina!! LOL!!

(i think) IWD started as a game to fill up the emptyness regarding creating a whole band and heavy combat of BG. So, not letting npcs to joing your band is what makes IWD IWD.

I know it was one of the Differences between the games.. but i do dare say.. It was a Bad difference.. The ability to Gain/lose Reputation, to be a True good/bad Guy, not just an unlikely hero, Made it interesting.. And depending on what you Did, or didn't do, The other party members told ya bout it.. And i missed that..

I got bored and made a Moon Elf Paladin, And a Drowish Necromancer.. Not a single foul word.. *pouts*

I didn't really miss the npcs. In BG I didn't like how if you wanted a mage you couldn't really get what yu wanted. In IWD you can make your chara what you want.

3e rules are not for npcs, because you could change them too much. (You coould give edwin ranger or monk levels, that would be quite weird)

To some extent you can provide some disincentive to multiclass to certain classes with NPCs under 3ed rules. Eg, They could have had an Aasimar fighter/cleric (Not lawful good). You cannot become a paladin and you have to watch out for the -20% XP penalty with uneven levelling up, so you are unlikely to add a level of eg, ranger or barbarian. They could have had NPC specific equipment that can't be used by certain classes, so that if you eg, become a ranger, your nifty heirloom ring can't be used.

Nah, it's a typically party-oriented crpg completely deprived of any in-team subplots as it's basically oriented on fight and whatever story might be, it's only secondary. Thus it's far better to create the characters from the beginning as a perfectly tailored team than to enroll background-less joinable characters on the way.

I'd rather have them introduce some way of basic personality simulation leading to the characters occasionally talking a bit. Only that would be a good deal of programming for a relatively small (in public's eyes) advantage. Doesn't pay off simply.

I'd have to say both ways. The option to create your own, plus a few stragglers you meet along the way and you can swap out if you want to.

I can see how it would be hard to do story-wise, given all the wilderness areas you travel to and less cities. I don't know how much of a problem that would be, but it's the first thing that came to mind.

Although I do miss the NPC banters and conflicts sometimes, I often use my imagination and pretend that characters in my IWD2 party are conversing to each other.

I do like having to find NPC's and them having a history, and personality, as it makes it more interesting for me. I do enjoy making my own party, just not as much. In my own party I tend to make include real life friends, and think what they would be like in the world on IWD. If my mates a bit sneaky, then he's a theif, if hes really outgoing and popular, hes usually a paladin. This makes it more interesting for me, but I'd still prefer NPC's with personalities.
