This is a tester of sorts. I'm supposed to be writing a five chapter novel kinda thing for my writing class. (15 pages a chapter and whatnot).

I thought about using oblivion for the basis, so here's the first five paragraphs. Tell me if you like it.

His hands shook as he carefully, carefully slid the lockpick into the key hole. He began working away at the tumblers and gears, sweat slowly running down his face. Robes and hoods weren’t good clothing for this weather, but they were his stealthiest clothing, and honestly, getting caught didn’t seem like a good tradeoff for being cool.
He listened closely, waiting for the soft thunk that would mean the lock had been picked. It was this careful listening that probably saved his life.
A small crunching noise behind him startled him, and without thinking, stood up and drew his dagger in one swift motion. His robes swirling, he whirled around to see an Imperial Guard standing inches from his face, his long sword raised over his shoulder, poised to strike.
Years of experience and adrenaline took over. He ducked, and dodged the killing blow that would have cut him in half. Reaching up, he grabbed the guardsman’s sword arm and using his thumb and forefinger, he pressed on the guard’s wrist in just the right place. A snap echoed through the cavern as the soldier’s wrist snapped
The sword fell loudly from the man’s grasp. The assassin kicked it away, and with a pang of regret at having to do it, jerked the man’s helmet off and swiftly slit his throat. Blood spurted out, staining his robes with dark splotches.
The assassin sighed. They never learned. The dark brotherhood doesn’t care who it kills. And yet at least once on every mission he would be confronted by some foolhardy guard, thinking that the assassin would just surrender. Too many wasted deaths.
Turning back to the lock, he slowly began working on the lock once more, while behind him the pitiful guard gurgled as his blood ran onto the cool cement floor.
