I'm not sure if this has been asked before, I imagine it has, but Irenicus just won't die. In Spellhold, he just stays at "Near Death' and won't budge. He keeps casting his spells at me. You guys got any ideas? I have installed the patch, and TOB is not installed yet, hence my posting here.

He can't die in spellhold. It's not his time yet, you see. :)

IIRC, you can "win" the battle only after about 30 seconds or something. So just keep hacking him. At least interrupt his spells and all till a while has passed. After 1 min of hacking at him while he's "near death" you can be sure it's a bug if he doesn't die. In case your party isn't good enough to stand that long, then try to boost one character with all spells and items, fall back with the others as soon as the battle starts. Then wait awhile and strike at him after around 30 seconds with all you've got (so instead of using your greatest powers in the first 10 seconds when he's immortal, use them when he can die).

Well that's the thing. He just won't say "Oh damn, you beat me, I'm gonna go sulk in the Underdark". Ctrl-Y can't even help me now!

Dude! You don't have to cheat to beat him, just have mages casting offensive spells, and the druids and clerics cast enhancement spells then walk into the fray. The fighters should be upfront, and the theif should run around backstabbing or firing arrows.

I don't ACTUALLY use Ctrl-Y on boss battles. I just use it when I don't feel like fighting kobolds or some such pitiful creature. It's just that I thought this MIGHT make him go down. Also, reloading does not fix the problem.

[IMG] Have you tried talking to him? Sometimes things are triggered but aren't actually... triggered...

er, sort of like in a really rough bar where this one person is standing by the bar of nuts and looks like he has had more brawls than heartbeats most people will just take the bowl and run but every so often one fool will ask nicely "Will you pass the nuts."

    that doesn't make sense...

Patch is installed. Talking to Irenicus does nothing. Party being hurt badly. Reloading STILL not helping. Are there any mods that cause this?

[Edit] Ok, problem solved. I started a new game, and cheated my stuff back in, and all my progress, and Irenicus finally triggered. [/Edit]

I had a similar problem with Irenicus the third time, and with Bodhi. My characters would just stand there hacking for hours, and nothing happened. Eventually, I left the machine on for the night with them attacking Bodhi, and she fell a few minutes after I woke up in the morning and checked. It took less time to kill Irenicus III.
