I've installed Cromwell's Smithy and it looks like a cool enough program, but for one reasno or another it's the most unstable thing I've ever run. I'm no coder so I can't exactly fix it myself, but I really want to get it to work or find some other item creating program that's easy to use.

None of the links in the program work most of the time, and in the rare occasion something happens when I click anything, I always get a running error which proceeds to either close the program or die trying.

Has anyone else had instability problems with Cromwell's and possibly know how to help me? Or perhaps you can recommend a better program (or one that works)?

    All help is very appreciated.

I recommend Near Infinity. Another good editor is DLTCEP. Both are very good programs (most modders generally use one or the other) that are capable of editing almost everything in the game, not just items.

I downloaded Near Infinity and am trying to make a bastard sword but I've never been more confused-- I wish there was something simpler like Cromwell's where I didn't have to do any code ****ing, just tell it what I want.. Thanks, though.

EDIT: Actually after playing around with it a bit, it's not that hard, it being Near Infinity... If anyone could help me, though, for the colors of the sword (the battle graphic and the sword's sprite in hand on the inventory screen) I don't know what numbers are what colors and can't figure it out.

EDIT #2: And now I'm frusturated because I can't find out how to actually get the item into the game, it's not showing up on Shadowkeeper's item list (which doesn't surprise me), it's in my override folder, and I can't find an items folder to put it into anywhere at all.

EDIT #3: Okay, now I tried making an "ITM" folder in the baldur's gate file, put my sword in there, and now the sword I'd copied originally, Bastard Sword +2, and then edited and saved seperately, is gone and this is replaced with it. This will not do because now there will be no Bastard Sword +2's in the game, they'll all be replaced by my damn sword. What's the deal with this? I can't find godamned instructions either.

EDIT #3.1: I figured out the problem with the last one, they're using the same "StringRef" things for their identified name and their identified description, they're not actually the same item now. But I need to know how to make new "StringRef" numbers that are unused so I can use them for my items.
