OK, even though I've played BGII umpteen times, I've never found this item. Evidently, it can be upgraded too, but since I've never found it, I wouldn't know. Where is it, who do you talk to upgrade it (evidently not Cromwell from what I've heard), what other items do you need to upgrade it, and finally, what does it do once it is upgraded?

Its in the bridge district in a house near a fish seller. To upgrade it you go to a seller in Walkeens promanade above the Adventurers Mart. Ask about magical weapons, and he will state that he only makes musical instruments...

The more you upgrade it, the uglier it looks.

There are 3 horns (Silver, Bronze and Iron).

    Check out Gamebanshee for details.

OK, the description says house in the Southwest corner of the Bridge District. I take it is the one next door to Neb's house?

Also, I suppose I should ask is it even a useful item? A fully upgraded horn still only summoning a 9th level warrior doesn't sound particularly useful.

I'd say north and a bit east from the Five Flagons, at the top of the map.

It's not, but I always seem to have it equipped anyway. :p

Granted you don't get the highest level warrior, but he still makes good fodder for fighting a large number of enemies.

The horn of Vallhala can be found in the northern-most house in the Bridge District. There is a guy who sells fish right at its entrance.
It is upgraded by Maheer. He is the fat guy standing next to the guy selling potraits towards the south of Waukeen's Promenade.

It is not worth the loss of a bejuril. I just upgrade it with a diamond if I intend to use it. Of course if Umar hills were your first real quest, you might find some use for it, atleast for a short while.

Going off to find it makes a good first quest. The rewards aren't great: a few exp. from disarming traps, and the Horn itself, which isn't a particularly powerful item. But the risks are zero :D

Level 5 berserk fighter. Good fodder at the beginning, and later it's tragicomic when he gets crushed by one hit of a tough enemy, as soon as he has been summoned.

I thought at one point some one made a small mod that upgraded the horn once more to something like an Adanamite level horn, which summons a 12th level berserker...or something like that. :rolling:

You know, now that I think about it, 9th level Berzerkers do have some good immunities when they are Enraged. Anyone ever used one from the horn to soak up level drains or hmmm a bunch of Imprisonments?

Silver, Bronze, Iron... the order of quality sounds reversed.

It's the Horn of Valhalla. What is worth the most to a warrior? Soft silver or hard iron?

I always like to have anything that a fighter or low-level thief can use to summon fodder. I kind of like starting battle preparations with EVERYONE in the party summoning something -- I still hate the fact that you're limited to 5 summoned creatures -- stupid rule!
