Does the Archer's Called Shot ability retain the bonuses from earlier levels when he reaches a new threshold? For example, at 12th level his called shot reduces strength by 1 but at 16th level his called shot adds 2 damage. Would, let's say, a level 18 archer's called shot also lower strength or does it only add 2 damage? If the latter then called shot is a piece of crap at level 16. Lowering strength with arrows would be awesome though (as Improved Saughin City taught me earlier). Thanks for the help.

EDIT-Nevermind, I just tested it myself. It works. =) Strength lowering greater whirlwinds here I come.

Dont know why, but i've never used this. I thought it's one good shot and that's it. Penalities being comulative with each shot, makes it quite a deadly thing.
Like, mages dont have much strenght i suppose. Anyone tried bringing them down with lowering their strenght to 0?

I've used called shots against mages, they tend to run out of hitpoints before they run out of strength.
I tend to save the called shots for freakishly strong opponents with high resistances and low THACO.

The biggest advantage of the archer's special affects of a called shot is that they go through several protections, including stoneskin. A mage may not take damage, but he will still have his strength reduced by one. It IS possible to strength drain a creature to death (when the strength reaches 0). However, as has been stated, your opponent usually runs out of hitpoints before running out of strength, especially once you hit ToB. Giant, dragons, etc. have 22+ strength, so if you hit the 20+ times, chances are they'll die from damage.

If you use the ability on a 22 Str Dragon you might not kill them through str drain but hit them with it a good 4+ times and that should take away a lot of the str modifier for the damage shouldn't it?

Well I'm thinking it definately has it's uses. I gave Imoen protection from normal missiles, stoneskin, mirror image, and protection from normal weapons (for no real reason) but I managed to kill her in Irenicus' Dungeon. That's right, not make her run away like she usually does, but kill her outright. Methinks if it can kill Imoen, it can kill anyone. ;)
