Very basic modding question about cre files.

Okay, I'm trying to make an alternative Viconia that's a monk (because the game has too darn many clerics and druids), and I'm using the Cernd Monk as a guide (I can't just play with the Cernd Monk, you understand, because he's...well...Cernd).

Anyway, when I try and remove Viconia's memorized spells in Viconi6.cre, and save the override file, near infinity won't open it up again. It's like it's corrupted.

Changing everything else (class, stats, etc) doesn't cause any problem, but this does, and I can't think of a practical work-around (I'm not sure what would happen if I let her keep the spells but removed the spell slots).

Any ideas? And if not, any ideas on who or where would have ideas?

To be honest, Shadowkeeper is actually better for these types of edits.

Are you also adjusting the fields for # known spells, # memorized spells, and each of the Memorization info X fields? If all of these fields are not consistent with one another, then the file is corrupted.

I think I'm keeping those straight. It's possible they're off.

I tried leaving the spells there and just changing them to innate drow-ish stuff like glitterdust (i.e., things that wouldn't really change the character's power level), but the game crashes when I try to summon her through the console, so...I dunno.

I actually hadn't considered shadowkeeping her. Would that work?

Also, what about the animations I should use? Do I have to go with female human monk? Or would one of the elven animations work with a monk class, because I'd like to use the female elven fighter.

You're right. SK is much better for this. I didn't know I could edit cre files with it. I thought I'd have to edit savegames with it.
