If you are a multiclassed or dualclassed character, which class will be used to determine the type of stronghold you can get?

    Thanks in advance!

I play a Fighter/Thief almost always and found out that whatever quest I take first is the one offered. As I like having my own castle I take up the fighter quest first.

ps There is some great information and guides in the Games BGII section right here on the net. Check it out.

I read through DSimpson's guide to BGII. It's awesome, but it didn't went into detail on which one was offered first.
    Thanks for the answer!

If your character is dual-classed, it's their active class. If they're multi-classed, it's whichever stronghold is accepted first from those which can be gained... unless you install one of the numerous mods which allow multiple strongholds (originally a Baldurdash mod, I believe).

i think it was ease-of use that added the multiple stronghold mod.

It's originally a baldurdash mod, now found in BG2tweakpack.

I don't remember if the BG2Fixpack fixes the mistake, that when being a multiclass and one of the classes is a fighter you were able to obtain two strongholds, when doing Nalias quest last. She didn't check for other strongholds AFAIK.

i think they fixed they multiclass/dual class issue either with a patch or a fix pack, i forget which.

i used to be a fighter/cleric, i would do almost all of the de arnise keep, except the final dialogues with Nalia, then go get the cleric stronghold, then come back and talk to nalia and get the keep. so i have 2 strongholds. now i just use the multiple strongholds part of Ease of use, or which ever mod it from, i forget.

There were a couple of bugs in the original stronghold implementations--cleric-rangers don't get offered the cleric stronghold, and there were a couple of exploits to gain the fighter and mage strongholds if you already had one. BG2 Tweaks offers multiple strongholds (no class restrictions, take as many as you want). When I get around to v4, I'm going to add a second option: class restrictions remain, but you can obtain multiple strongholds. I.e. your fighter-mage can get the Sphere and Keep, but won't get offered the ranger cabin, thieves guild, etc.

Thanks to camDawg, v4 does indeed now implement the class-related tweak, out now... so now my favorite Fighter/Magic User can get both strongholds without getting all of the other quests.
