If my wizard casts this spell and is unable to cast spells at the time contigency is triggered (eg. he is now wearing armour or under tensor's transformation) does it still trigger the effect?

The same goes for using spell trigger under special abilities. Will it still execute if you're now unable to cast spells?

From what I know of the spell, the spell should still be cast on you regardless of what you are wearing etc. Reason being is that you don't actually cast this spell on yourself. The contingency spell does. Its like a trigger that automatically casts the spell under certain conditions. If you're wearing platemail for example and you had the contingency set so that when you encounter a bad guy, stone skin is cast, then stoneskin with be cast automatically without fail regardless of what you are wearing. Providing that you have rested after the contingency spell, it won't take those 2 spells off your daily allotment.

Thats my understanding of the spell anyway

This is an interesting question, especially for a fighter/mage. Was there something special you had in mind, cat_hair2000?

[IMG] The contingency would still trigger even if you're wearing tons of armor... Interesting question... Why, thinking of some devious trick? Do share!

What about those dead-magic rooms? I bet it doesn't work there. ;)

Yep, Wirhe is right about the dead-magic rooms...there would be spell failure.

However...cat_hair2000, I must admit I am greatly intrigued...you have just taught me a really nifty trick to using my Fighter/Mages... :) .

I was thinking then that you could use Tensor's Transformation (TT) and be able to trigger off protective contingency and spell trigger offensive spells. Fighter feats such as armour and TT usually discourage you because you cannot cast spells. But if spell trigger and contigency let you do so, you could be quite powerful. Hard to hit and lethal using:

Minor sequencer (2 spells of 2 level or lower)
Spell sequencer (3 spells of 4th level or lower)
Spell Trigger (3 of 6th level or lower)
Contigency (1 spell up to 6th level)
Chain Contigency (3 spells of ANY level)

These five spells will all store many spells from your list and remain active until executed so resting will restore spells as well as keep these extra spells readied. They also store priest/druid spells as well.

But don't underestimate the value of low level spells at high levels. I have set a spell sequencer to store 3 magic missiles. At a high level, that gives me a total of 12 or 15 magic missiles plummeting themselves into an opponent. I know; magical resistance negates this but most creatures (save for dragons and boss guys) lack magical resistance. And there's always "lower resistance" spell.

You could have a very powerful fighter/mage/cleric; unfortunately, they would never reach high enough levels to use many of these spells...

Yes, I just found that out by using it even though the manual says any level. And I was hoping to put time stop in there...

[IMG] If chain contigency is capped at level 8, how does spell trap get triggered whenever a lich sees me? Is it again something like Xzar casting mirror image (illusion spell: opposite to necromancy) when he is a necromancer.

That's because it's not really a contingency but a trigger in the lich's script.
