Ok, I need seriouse help beating this battle without setting traps outside the door using Yoshimo. (I would but since I'm playing multi-player on one computer, my parties full.) After cleaning the wild dogs and mephit out of the library I've managed to kill Illyich's jailkeep golem, but everyone else in his group massacres my party. :( (I have a kensia, beserker, cleric/ranger, swashbuckler, wizard, and Jaheira btw)

The best way to handle this is keep your whole party far away from the room, haste a character (preferably the thief, who will be hiding/invisible), pop in just far enough to see one or two of them, lob an arrow, and bolt. Try to string out the group using your hasted character so that some are left behind, lure the ones that are following you to your group in waiting, and commence butchery. Repeat. Good luck, though, as it's not an easy fight even if you get them in doses.

The old 'Lure' strat is my main strat... tbh its not so much as a strat for me, more my way of playing BG... 1 or 2 opponents is easier to take down than 5 or 6, its simple rules of logistics :p

If you can ever lure, do it... preferably leave traps along the route which he/she will take, ergo sometimes this is not possible :(

You appear to have used it in another sense, perhaps you meant "unfortunately"?
I played in a team called "Ergo Bibamus" (meaning: "Therefore let us drink"; references to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe) once and the meaning of that latin word stuck. :)

    Only you... :p

Its quite a difficult encounter I must admit, pulling is bar far the best technique, trapping the route back obviously.

Thanks guys, I just beat it. I lured each one of the remaining guys out then stunned them with wands of paralyze, and the spells chromatic orb, and hold person. That's got to be the most difficult encounter I've ever done.

no need to web or stink around. you can block a doorway with an invisible char and lure them solitary to that doorway. get some coffee while your chars shoot. this would have worked very well here because the only one of illyich's party who can see invisible foes was the golem that you killed already.
