I love the inquisitor for the true sight and dispel abilities, because they simplify combat against mages and let me detect what would otherwise be very annoying hidden enemies.

Inquisitor has been revealed many times to be the best by surveys like this.

Inquisitor, hands down. You lose lay on hands and spells, but they're no big deal, since you can't rely on them for healing anyway. You gain THE most powerful Dispel Magic in the game (twice your level), and True Sight (level 5 priest spell - higher than the max level paladins get to cast).

Undead Hunter is nice, mainly because there's so many undead running around the game, and immunity to level drain can be a boon early on, but it's really only a convenience.

Cavalier is overrated IMO. True, its immunities are very nice but the bonuses against demons and dragons are practically useless. Having only one of your characters do +3 damage against that dragon just isn't going to win the fight.

Normal paladin is nice and everything, but I always prefer to play with kits.

    Undead Hunter! :thumb:

So many undead just wating to drain your levels...and the bonus to hit against undead is very nice as well! So you can cast lay-on-hands...big deal!

Inquisitors are usless as a PC, because if you want one in your party, you can go fetch Keldorn! :rolling:

True, Ive never been one to play a Paladin but the Undead hunter has always seemed the most logical choice seeing as there is so much undead to go round!

Cavalier is the perfect kit for me.

Protection against Charm can be obtained by wearing the Helm of Charm Protection or Lilarcor. Protection against Hold can be obtained with a Ring of Free Action. Level-drain can be prevented with the Mace of Disruption.

Cavaliers are potentially able to dispel magic (granted, at much lower level than the Inquisitor, but still) either whith the cleric spell or with Carsormyr (note that Carsormyr tries to dispel magical effects in the target with every hit, try it with Whirlwind for extra chances). Cavaliers can dispel the most common types of invisibility with See Invisible, and Dispel Magic always remove Mirror Image IIRC.

If that is not good enough, Cavaliers can Silence mages with Namarra, which removes the need for dispelling.

So what about the disadvantages of the Cavalier kit?
"Cannot use bows and crossbows"... but they can use throwing daggers and axes, so the Cavalier has, in fact, no disadvantages. :D

[IMG] True, but I just got BG1tutu working and I'm thinking of taking a kit though BG1.
Maybe even my end-of-SoA character. :p

Inquisitors get the meager respect they do from me, because of their anti mage abilities...namely their uber dispel, and true sight. Lacking these...the paladin class is a poor replacement for a Fighter indeed...

    Hence, the Inquisitor.

    Undead hunter.

Not only for the level drain and hold resistance, but I like having the cleric spells. Sure they only go to level 4, but I'm rather fond of having my high level Pally cast DUHM and Armor of Faith before pretty much every fight. 4th lev. gives you Prot. from Evil 10' radius (if you're in a party), Free Action and Death Ward, the later two are must-haves for high level fights. And of course you can always name yours Buffy :)

Colthurn makes the Cavalier sound really good. Maybe I'll try one out next run-through.
Deuce: If you choose Undead hunter largely because it gives cleric spells, why not choose cavalier? :)

Inquisitor. Never have I encountered such a mage slayer and the only true penalty I've ever found was the lack of Draw Upon Holy Might, which I don't need too much anyways. I've never found the other abilities useful (Immunity to Charm and Hold? If the Charm also granted Immunity to Domination... but nope so its lame) but Dispel at twice the level is just ludicrous. True Sight is also happy happy but even if Inquisitors didn't have it, I'd be content.

Cavaliers are fun, and perhaps the epitome of what defines a Paladin, with quite a few bonuses with virtually no penalty. Immunity to Fear is the only mind affecting immunity that I find convenient, and this guy makes the whole party immune!

Undead Hunters are just kind of there. I personally don't like specialists so this doesn't catch my attention too much, but Immunity to Level Drain is oh so nice as I never have Restoration handy. It's just that, Ranger/Clerics are better undead hunters... And better everything else too. Then again, they're better than Cavaliers at everything as well so I'll shut up.

Still no votes for the poor vanilla Paladin. :D

I usually hack and slash through mages with Carsomyr or Flail of Ages instead of using Dispel Magic, so Inquisitor has never appealed to me very much. So undead hunter it is.

    Kits are usually better.
I did realize one thing that the Cav's really good for. If you play through with Viconia (odd choice for a paladin, I know) the Cavalier is the only one who can handle her in ToB. Otherwise when she Turns Undead that "turn Paladin" effect kicks in and your paladin goes running off.

I thought that ability was silly anyway. No NPC ever uses it so I pretend it doesn't exist :p

    @ knightlight

Does that evil clerics turning Paladins work on the fallen bunch in the Docks, or are they really just Fighters with delusions?

I've only played with a Cavalier...i thought i was better. But having Keldorn in the party showed me the truth! :D
I don't know the Undead Hunter kit that well but i think the Dispel magic and true sight of the Inquisitor is enough to give the award to him.

    Keldorn to power!
