It says in the manual the paladin can choose high level abilities from the warrior pool, but i also heard you can summon planetar as well. if this is the case can a paladin use abilities from the cleric pool as well?

The paladin can choose the same level abilities of fighters, PLUS "Summon Deva" (of course due to alignment he cannot choose a Fallen Deva). This is different from the Cleric ability only because the Cleric simply learns another 7-lvl spell, ie "Summon Deva" (and has to spend one of his spell slots to use it), while the Paladin can summon the Deva as an innate ability.

The Paladin CANNOT summon Planetars. That is a Mage ability.

I wish they could summom Planetars...they seem to be more powerful. The good side is that since it doesn't take a spell slot it works much faster.

Dont want to start a long discussion here but I always thought that Devas was alot more powerful than Planetars. Atleast they have many more spells. Edwins Fallen Planetar doesnt have muc spells at all :(

    Devas vs Planetars?

    Deva -
    Attacks - 2 per round at thac0 of 5
    70% magic resistance
Immune to normal and +1 weapons
Wields upgraded mace of disruption +2

    Planetar -
    Attacks - 3 per round at thac0 of 5
    75% magic resistance
Immune to normal, +1 and +2 weapons
    Wields silver sword (unique version)
Has a lot more spells than deva.

So while devas would undoubtedly be much better against undead, other than that I'd take a planetar every time. (oh yes, only other thing in devas favor is that the mace actually counts as a +5 weapon for purposes of what it can hit, but planetar gets dispel every hit to make up for that)

    (err..went a bit off topic..sorry)
