I think that's what the helmet is called anyway.

It's a cursed helmet I got off of the DEmonknight and imported with me from BGI. You get it if you can kill the DK on the first floor of Durlag's Tower.

Anyway, I'm thinking there must be some way to abuse this item. Can I, for instance, put it on, go the evil route in Hell for some of the better bonuses, and then take it off and go back to my original alignment?

If this (or any other tricks) work (or you think they might work!), please LMK.

[IMG] iirc, the alignment change in hell is like a spell effect which is permanant, no reversal. Much like when Anomen gets his alignment changes. So I don't think the helmet will remove it, only change it for the time you wear it.

Well, I'm almost there in my game. I'll do a few tests and see if this item is abusable.

As far as I know, the only "abuse" of this item is to change the alignment of NPCs so they adventure with you without whinging about reputation. So good parties could take Korgan or Viconia without them getting angry and leaving when your rep gets too high.

And on the other side of the coin, it's always entertaining to have Aerie bludgeon a few orphans to death and pipe up: I'm so happy you brought me with you; I never thought we'd be doing such great things!

Magpie! Your twisted sensibilities make me tingle with delight. I always liked raping, I mean sleeping with, Aerie when I full well knew she didn't want to get it on, with my evil characters. A whole new realm of disgusting alignment twisting play has just been opened up to me. Thank You.

That's the reason you are "Irreligious".(but sleeping with Aerie is not "raping", probably "mating")
and I find hell alignment change quite annoying because I don't want any party member holy smiting me(I am paladin and it gets worse. and no SKing.)

If I remember correctly, the helmet in BG I didn't actually stop characters moaning and potentially leaving you when rep became too high/low. Not sure about BG II.

Could you do one Hell trial the evil way (eg. the Blackrazor one), then put the helmet on after you finish and become good again (at least, as long as you didn' take the helmet off)?

The alignment change in hell is an effect (under "effects" in SK). Since evil characters don't change their alignment in hell, it is possible that the game checks the current alignment and not the actual aligmnet, so it won't add the effect. I doubt it, however.

Ok, I just tested this helmet out in hell, and it DOES allow a good character to choose the evil paths, get the evil bonuses, and just cast "remove curse" after recieving the bonus and revert back to your original alignment.

I tested this with a Neutral Good character, slapped the helmet on immidiately, and cast "Remove Curse" after putting the tear in the door.

ON EDIT: I just wanted to add that I was just testing this out. It's way too abusive for my tastes. I'm just going to do the good paths.

Pfft. Black razor is useless at that point in the game. I mean, it might come in handy for 5 minutes while in ToB, but other than that, it's crap. There are too many weapons you can get soon after that are so much better.

@Klorox, good to see someone using the word "Abuse" instead of "cheese". :rolling:

That's true, but it is kind of neat. I think if you do that you could also get +2 Strength (I like to be a Fighter / Mage so it might come in handy) and some kind of damage resistance.
