I'm trying to build a party with a lot of melee characters in it. So far, I've got:

Korgan: Axe of the Unyeilding +5
    Mazzy: Ravager +6
Anomen: Flail of the Ages +5
    Jaheira: Ixil's Spike +6
    Keldorn: Carsomyr +6

I'd use a M/T protagonist, armed with the Staff of the Magi (and Staff of the Ram +6 for backstabbing). He's use Short Bow of Gesen for ranged attacks when not casting.

I think a primarily melee orientated party would actually be quite powerful. I'd be low on casting, but I don't really know if that would be much of a problem.

I also LOVE that 4 characters get Fighter HLAs, and one gets Thief HLAs. Anomen loses out in that department.

All you really need is your thief with UMD to use the wands of breach/pierce shield and your mage to remove the phys damage blockers on casters and you're melee party is far more than just viable.

I'd throw in the hammer that Yagashura drops. That hammer is more powerful than the flail I think. By the time you get axe of unyielding +5, there's no reason Korgan can't dual-wield axes (or nother weapon) with grand-mastery, in-case you're in need of a dual-wielder ;) .

Alternately, you might want a CHARNAME paladin with ** in bastards and *** in two weapon to dual-wield both holy bastards. Purifier +5 and Foebane +5 are no joke. With a paladin kit that has healing abilities, such as the cavalier, you might also be in a position drop that loser, Jaheira.

I assume this party is starting in SOA and moving into TOB, where Sarevok should obviously be considered for your party, melee monster that he is. He can't berserk like Korgan, but his deathbringer attack is self-explanatory. You should have the vorpal silver sword from SOA (and Soul Reaver +4 if you care to use it) until you can pick up Gram the Sword of Grief +5 in TOB.

For the record, the XP cap in TOB is high enough such that Korgan can eventually get *** in two weapon fighting and ***** in both axes and warhammers, though it can be a long and tedious road at times. A berserking Korgan grandmaster dual-wielding the Axe of the Unyielding and Crom Faeyr will just about any opponent to Valhalla in a hurry.
