Paizo Stops Dungeon, Dragon Magazines?

    I could not believe it when I saw it at Giantitp.com, but apparently it's true - Paizo will stop publishing the iconic D&D magazines, Dungeon and Dragon from this fall. The last issues will be 150 and 359, respectively. The content that used to be published in the two magazines will now be distributed online.

    There's going to be a huge outcry, but it won't change anything... WoTC has obviously calculated that they'll pocket more cash by going exclusively online. It's a shame though... I'd certainly never subscribe to a magazine I'd have to print out first to read comfortably. No, I don't consider reading a whole magazine (or a book) staring at the monitor comfortable. Most people's eyes these days are exposed to monitor reading way too much as it is.

    Although you could print out only what you want and leave the rest where you found it. How much of an article do you need to read before you decide whether you want to print it or not?

    wow this has been the most nasty day of posting on the D&D message boards since I joined a year ago. It is just so sad to see a mag that has been around for 30 years gone...

    Just another instance of WOTC allowing the licenses to expire. CMP was the first, Paizo was next. I wouldn't be surprised if others with the licenses lose theirs soon also.

    I've have all the issues of Dragon. I was a subscriber from about issue 12 till about # 180. Then the magazine went into a slump, but I'd still buy from the newstand, then I went back and bought back issues to fill in. I have Dungeon 1-17, then again from 80 on. Not sure what their peek subscription base was, but I believe it has a strong 40,000 base now with another 20,000 at the newstand. Seems like good numbers to me.


    Strange to get to 30 years and pull the plug. Wonder why Sports Illustrated, Time, heck even Playboy will follow suit. Then again, they have brains.
