If you can take a cleric and spend a few points on getting him warrior's thac0 and HP progression?

Roleplaying, additional attacks per round, ** weapon proficiency (if it's not available at the cost of some points too), saving points for casting-related traits?

Err...Chevalier, in 3E there is no THAC0, only attack bonus. ;)

I can't see your point, actually, so can you explain what you said?

Chev is talking about second edition.

Though what he means/wants to know isn't completely clear to me.

In second edition you have (optional) character points for which you can buy His Eminence a few thingies like fighter thac0 progression, fighter HP progression, wizard domain access, paladiny laying hands etc apart from more or less useful typically clerical abilities.

So, if you take fighter thac0 and HP, the only difference is weapon proficiency level (if it can't be bought of which I'm not sure) or attacks per round (if not included in Warrior Priest ability or however it's called). If you add the wizard domain of transmutation you also have haste and a few other buffs. Considering that priests have half again the number of slots that wizards have

I wish there were something like that for paladins, who only have some very lame perks purchased at great cost. I would definitely buy longsword grandmastery elligibility, additional domain access, improved laying hands for example...

Chev, why are you playing 2E AD&D? I think 3E is much better. And what is your question?

If I understand him right, Chev wants to know what use a Multiclassed Fighter/Cleric has when you can play a Singleclassed Cleric in stead and 'buy' fighterlike abilities such as better Thac0 etc.

Since I'm unfamiliar with 2E, I don't dare to say a thing. I'm curious though. Chev makes a point.

Chev, you are using the Player's Option way to create a character, right?

If that is so, why would you play a Fighter/Cleric if you can use the character point system to buy fighter like abilities for your single class, cleric, right?

If I remember right (I tossed most of my 2E stuff shortly after getting the 3E PHB and DMG), then there really isn't a reason too. The point of the Player's Option rules was to play a customized character. Take a single class, excise the things you don't like about it and add stuff from other classes that you do like.

Now, the real question is, is it cheaper in CPs to make a Cleric with fighter abilities, or a Fighter with Cleric abilities? I don't know. The only character I made with CPs is a wizard with forbidden schools, access to clerical spheres and a better HD.

Now that I rambled on, in answer to your question, why would you play a F/C over a rebuilt cleric? I don't think you would.

    Did that help at all?

Are you using the Skills and Powers system in 2E?

I fiddled around with Skills and Powers before 3E and determined that it was created for people who only wish to minmax to extreme levels such as someone wants to duel wield two handed swords and the like. Where actual classes mean little when you can take a thief and give him/her wizard spells and hit like a fighter but progress at thief exp. It was fun for my group for about two hours before we realized this is not the type of gaming we like, so we left it behind. I guess your point would be if you are still playing 2E yet do not like the limitation 2E rules give character classes then more power to you and go for it. A common point is why play 2E when 3E is out and wonderfully more simple and expansive to character development.

    Thanks, people :)

Well, I just meant *some* point-based buy system I've come across a few times. AFAIK it's not like getting ubermunchkinpowers, but sometimes it does seem a bit over the top.

On the other hand it would be nice to be able to get some fairly non-standard traits. A flaw-quality exchange system like in some PC games could be nice too.

But to just some up the topic: the buy system isn't really widely used and normal fighter/clerics are more popular than warrior priests, right?
