    That was great, Frostmage! There's a mathematical equation floating around on the internet that proves Hell is cold, it would be great if someone could find it and post here but I couldn't manage it. Here's a joke that contains reference to a mathematician since I've run out of limericks but desperately want to stay included in this great thread. :D

    A philosopher, a mathematician and a jounalist are taking a train through Scotland and, looking out the window, the journalist exclaims, "All the sheep in Scotland are white!". The mathematician replies, "you are only looking out the window to the west, and anyway you haven't seen all the sheep in Scotland. All you know for sure is that of the subset of sheep in the west of Scotland, the subset that you have seen are all white." And the philosopher chimes in, "All the sheep in the west of Scotland, that you have seen, are white on one side ."

    This?
    Search word equation+Hell

    I dunno if this is it, but this is certainly a funny link. Take a look at this for instance
    *ehem* Probably most fun for us nerdy scientist. :mommy:

    I have to mention that I disagree with quite a few details. Both assumptions and facts. But its making math/physics fun nevertheless :)

    Haven't seen any solution to the first post in this thread yet, so I'll spoil it all for you:

    Blog divided by zero :rolleyes: . Cheap trick to mess everything up :p .

    @Frostmage - that's hilarious! No mathematical flaws like the one I posted too ;)

    @Morgoth - I think I might be able to do that problem using C++, but I didn't learn JavaScript yet. Here's how:

    for (int x = 2; 133745531 % x == 0 && x < 133745531; x++)
    cout x endl; (SP won't let me type out the extraction operator)

    that way x starts at 2, scrolls through all the integers (same as "whole numbers") and the boolean checks if the remainder of the division is zero. The cout line just prints the x's that works onto the screen.

    [EDIT] Forgot to sum them up. Instead of cout, declare an int sum = 0; then inside the for loop put sum = sum + x; and then cout sum [/EDIT]

    @Blog, Kewl dude

    BTW, you CAN work with C++ but not Javascript, eh?? I know they are completely different but most people start with the lower languages (Javascript, Java) and then slowly work up to the higher (Pascal, C, C++) Like I did

    Let a = b
    a^2 = ab
    a^2 - b^2 = ab - b^2
    (a+b)(a-b)=b(a-b)
    a + b = b
    Therefore, if a = 1, b = 1 :
    1 + 1 = 1
    2 = 1

    :)

    But you want *REALY* fun ?? Well, we don`t have to look too far :D

    Solve for x:

    The log of the cube root of x in base 2 equals the log of 2 in base x. :D

    (warning: I made this up off the top of my head; so it might get a little ugly... I think it`s possible, though :D )

    Want something really funny:

    A_____D
    B__G__E
    C_____F

    Sorry if it looks a little chaotic but the ubb-script doesnt accept empty spaces, therefore picture it as a big H made of letters

    Each letter stands for a number between 0 and 9
    The numbers are so that
    A*B*C, D*E*F and B*G*E are equal

    Useless Hints:
    - 0 is useless, duh
    - Another number is not used, this might be the 1

    @MagnusMagus
    I don´t understand how you come to this conclusion
    I didnt understand you last home-made math stuff, since I´m really bad in english math :confused:

    I agree Morgoth.
    @ Magnus you should really work a little more with that equation :p

    @Mollusken. Hi parrot :p
    I'll name my next parrot Mollusken. To teach you a lesson :shake:

    The problem with MagnusMagus' proof is the same as the original post: division by zero. The factor (a-b) is zero, so you cannot divide both sides by it.

    Arrg! hate those log rules, I think I forgot them all already. And now I'm stuck because of it...

    To translate the MagnusMagus' log question from english to math, I think it's:

    Solve for x:
    log2 [ x^(1/3) ] = logx [2]

    where logY is really log subscript Y which is "log base Y". The stuff in square brackets is the thing being logged.

    As a said, I´m bad in english math and have no idea what "log" stands for :heh:

    Every row and line (A*B*C etc.) equals 72.

    Dunno if the use of the "9" is legal, because you said "numbers between 0 and 9"; on the other hand you explicitly excluded the "0", so IMO the "9" is allowed. :p

    Ok, my log question doesn`t get too ugly; probably best to take it all back to one calculation though.

    BTW, does anyone have any links to (anti)log tables - base 10 ??
    I can`t find any calculator in the house that has logs. :(
