The purpose of this topic is to help people who has trouble in figuring out a name for characters (Like in Baldurs Gate, D&D, Ad&d etc.) so post yer best name ideas here! Share yer knowledge! ehh... or somehting like that...
And if you get any more cool vikingnames, please let me know what they mean and such!
    Thx!! //Zaragoth :D

Tyr is the Norse God of justice
Balder is actually the Norse God of Music & Poetry.

Loki is the troublemaker - kinda like our own Lokken ???? :p ;)

I used the Bible for alot of names early on in D&D. Go through Judges, Samuel Kings & Chronicles for great names.

    Ehud
    Samson
    Nimrod the Hunter
    Gideon

Matheatis: The correct name is Loke

Thor, the mighty god who passes over our heads in a cart pulled by male goats while fighting the evil trolls of Asgard. When he strikes at them with his hammer, lightning strikes down and thunder can be heard from miles away. He's definitly the coolest one :).

As for names, LotR names and WoT names are often used on my characters. And names from Diablo 2 bosses and legendary Starcraft persons.

Brisingaman was an evil Dwarf living in Svartalfheim, (the home of the dark elves)

Forseti was the son of Baldur, and was god of Justice

Heimdal was the guardian of the gods.

Fenris was a wolf and a thief - a son of Loki.

Yes, You are right! Sorry! I misread the reference text, mainly because of having in mind the title of a childrens' fiction book called 'The Weirdstone of Brisingaman' which makes it sound as though Brisingaman is a person. The necklace was MADE by the Dark Dwarves, and they promised to give it to Freya as a gift in return for 'favours'.(!!!)

Brisingaman is still a good name, though!

    [IMG] More correction:

The names is spelled Heimdall, and he also was father of all humans.

Brisingaman was Freja's necklace, and she got it by sleeping with four dwarves.

    Other names:

    Mjølner - Thor's hammer
Sleipner - Odin's horse (it had 8 legs and was also a son of Loke
    Hugin & Munin - Odin's two ravens

But hey, vikings came from up here north, not from Englang, America or other places. Here we say Loke, so Loke is the most correct. You probably just write Loki because it's the way for you to pronounce it.

In fact, Thor is also spelled wrong. Tor is the correct way. And Freia or Freja is written Frøya, allthough that would be difficult for many of you :).

And for another cool norse name:

Tor is also called Lorride by the other gods.

The guy sitting behind me in class said Fenris, Sleipner and the Midgard wyrm was children of Loke. He's pretty bright, so I assume he's right.

Loke is actually no god, but a jotun (evil troll). He was addopted by Odin (chief of gods), and is then also brother to Tor who is a real son of Odin.

I'm still pretty sure it's Hel (how do you spell her name?) two face, ruler of underworld? and not sleipner. Perhaps he got sleipner in another relationship though
