"cave canem!" (be aware of the dog) How modern the romans were :shake:

"Marcus hodie in colosseo est, set ubi est Cornelia?" (Marcus is in the colosseum today, but where is cornelia?) - First sentence from my first latin book :D

    my favourite however:
"pecunia non olet" (money doesn't stink) - so said Vespasian when he introduced a tax for the use of public toilets :shake:

    and perhaps even better:
"capere aude!" (dare to think) from Kant

    Orbes volantes existare
    = Flying saucers exist

Catapultam habeo. Nisi pecuniam omnem mihi dabis, ad caput tuum saxum immane mittam.
= I have a catapult. Give me all your money or I will throw a huge rock at your head.

Utinam barbari spatium proprium tuum invadant!
= May barbarians invade your personal area!

    Magister Mundi sum!
= I am the ruler of the world!

    Iam ego sum necare te.
= Now I will kill you

    Cogito ergo doleo.
    = I think, therefore I am depressed

    Radix lecti
    = Couch potato

Te audire no possum. Musa sapientum fixa est in aure.
= I acn't hear what you are saying. I have a banana in my ear.

    And my favourite:
    Fac ut gaudeam.
    =Make my day

There's useful latin phrases for you! ;)

    Greez to you too, Tarol´azh

Here´s a link to a page that has several, good latin phrases: http://www.geocities.com/~stilicho/quotations.html

The one I´d like to share, and the one that cannot be found from that site, is "quï scrïbit, bis legit." Which means, roughtly; "the one who writes, reads everything twice." Most of you probably know this, but it is read like this:
    [kvii skriibit, bis legit]

Aqua, forum, senate, library, cell(cellae)...english has taken quite much from latin, eh? ;)

Oh, I almost forgot; here´s a song I heard a couple of days ago while sitting on a stage with three other fellows. Rock´n´roll, I think...

:,: Gaudeamus igitur iuvenes dum sumus :,:
    post iucundam iuventutem,
    post molestam senectutem
nos habebit humus, nos habebit humus.

:,: Vivat academia vivant professores, :,:
    vivat membrum quodlibet
    vivant membra quaelibet
semper sint in flore, semper sint in flore.

    :xx:

    Nemo sine vitiis est
    - Nobody is without flaws

    Oderint, dum metuant
    - Let them hate me, as long as they fear me (Nero's motto)

Plato amicus est, sed maior amica veritas
    - Plato is nice, but the truth is nicer

    Cave ovem
    - Beware of the sheep

Heh, cogito ergo doleo has to be my favorite.

Oh, and sit vis nobiscum means "may the force be with us", not you...
Don't you just hate that-- I'm getting my major in Latin

Oh, and let's not forget Carpe DM - seize the dungeon master.

2nd note: It's "Luke, pater ipse sum tuus." Not te. ;)

BTW, I just happened to be watching The Hunchback of Notre Dame from Disney, and there were a few in there, as well:

    Beata Maria
    Mea culpa
    Mea Maxima Culpa

    Maybe Penta can translate....

    I like maths, so -
    Quad erat demonstrandum
(= that which has been shown; which was to be proved).

Then, some other little "english" phrases that not many seem to know the real meanings of..

ie = id est = that is, to say.
eg = exemple grati = for example

At one stage, my avatar text at Cabala was "rex et imperator" (King and Emporer).

    I`m surprised noone has mentioned
Dulce et decorum est pro patria morae
"It is sweet and proper to die for one's country"

There is also one small piece of untranslated latin somewhere in this post. Anyone willing to try to find it and translate it ?? :D

Almost right. 'Beata' means blessed... so the name of our queen (yes, we Dutchies have a queen... not that we have any use for one) Beatrix means 'she who blesses'.

You know, in Brazil we call "beatas" those old ladies who live only to go to church and pray and gossip. Like the "Church Lady" from Saturday Night Live
