If you don't know what a cover song is, it's when a band re-does a different band's song. The result can be a really cool song, or a pathetic piece of crap. An example of a good cover is Aaron Lewis' version of 'Black'...an example of a crappy cover would have to be The Smashing Pumpkins' version of 'Landslide'.

Personally, my favorite cover is Metallica's version of 'Tuesday's Gone'. This is one of my favorite Lynard Skynard (sp) songs, and I thing Metallica did it right.

My most hated cover would have to be whatever chick singer did a version of 'Landslide'...the Smashing Pumpkins' was bad, but when that chick singer re-did it, she killed it. Sorry I can't remember who it was.

    So, what are yours? :rolling:

My favorites covers are Skyclad's cover of Thin Lizzy's "Emerald" and Judas Priest's covers of Joan Baez's "Diamonds and rust" and of Fleetwood Mac's "Green Manalishi". The most hated is a cover of a swedish death metal band (I think their name is "At The Gates" but I'm not sure) in Manowar's "Blood of my enemies". In addition I can't stand the various techno/rave covers of famous rock songs like Deep Purple's "Smoke on the water" or Van Halen's "Ain't talkin'about love".

Most hated (recently): "Somebody to love" by a german(?) techno-project. Original by Jefferson Airplane.

I am a fan of covers. I like "Sympathy for the devil" by Jane's Addiction, "One", "Nothing else matters" and "The Unforgiven" by Apocalyptica and "Have a cigar" by the Foo Fighters most.

Well Apocalyptica´s "Nothing Else Matters" comes to mind, and also System of a Down´s "Snowblind"..

But hated? If I hear a song I don´t like, I just stop listening

I like Khaled's and Mylène Farmer's version of "La poupée qui fait non".

I generally dislike the wave of cheap cover's for the fast buck. Like taking an older song, put some new drumbeats and more bass under it, and whoopie, we go.

Cemetery, orriginaly done by Silverchair, was covered by Good Charlote and did a good job. Not as good as the orriginal but still good.

Most hated is Madonna's American Pie. A complete bastardisation of the song.

Best: Snake River Conspiracy's version of "How Soon Is Now" by the Smiths; also the Black Crowes' "Hard to Handle," though I can't remember the original singer right now.

Worst: Britney Spears version of Joan Jett's classic "I Love Rock n' Roll." Just awful. That, plus any song that jackass Puff Daddy has wiped his ass with.

I like Tom Cochrane's version of "Bird on a Wire" (originally done by Leonard Cohen). The version used in the film by the Neville Brothers draws a lukewarm response from me. Tiffany's version of "I saw [Him] standing there" merited the death penalty.

I kind of like the Dixie Chick's version of "Landslide", while Phil Collins himself took part in some rap moron's bastardization of one of his songs (I can't remember which one, but I saw Phil in the video before I changed the channel in an effort to prevent nausea.) Pretty well any Rap assault on classic tunes makes me ill.

Without a doubt the worst one would be that stupid pop band who covered 'Country Road' last year, and my favourite is 'Seasons in the Sun' by Westlife.
