    At last Silvestar,it was time you played BG1 ;)

    I agree with anyone who said that it’s an even better game than BG2.
    It has a better story-line than BG2 ,IMHO and a sense of freedom and adventuring that I have never seen in another CRPG.The graphics are not bad at all for such an old game and besides they are part of the unique atmosphere of BG1.
    Just be sure to avoid spoilers/walkthroughs and DON’T rush the game.I remember that my first run through BG1 took me about 6 months ! but I enjoyed it a lot.

    Have you decided your class? I think that it would be a good idea to import this character in BG2 and complete the BGSaga with him.

    Yeah, just play it like a complete novice and don't try and predict what is going to happen. Use whatever party seems to be right at the time. You will never be able to do it like this for the first time again so make the most of it.

    I enjoyed my first run through of BG1 but I doubt I will ever play it again.

    Something else to point out: you only get max hitpoints at first level. If you want people to be able to take a hit, be ready to save before you level anyone up.

    ... or use the maxHP component from EoU.
    A drawback is that you'll hardly want to add other party members later in the game since the HP of NPCs you meet later at higher levels won't be as good as the HP of your party members who gained max HP when levelling up in your party.

    I thought Silverstar had decided to play without mods, which is why I pointed out you don't get max hitpoints every level. :rolleyes:

    ^Yes, Kuemper is right, I will even stay away from EoU for the sheer original feeling. So I can save/load if, say, a fighter rolls 1 on his level up hit dice. Now that would suck otherwise.

    @thetruth

    Yes, I am SO glad! If a very experienced player like you too says BG1 is better than BG2 in some aspects, well, I can only agree silently. We have similiar tastes afterall, right?

    I have to be a mage, a character which I enjoy most always. I know at low levels they are not that powerful, but still...I guess a conjurer is nice enough, I will strive to be the exact opposite of Edwin:good, kind and helpful! :good: I plan to take Jaheira and Khalid (I must see them together, after falling in love with Jaheira so many times in BG2), and naturally Imoen. Other than that, I will take anyone I fancy to the party. Perhaps a bard to compensate most neccesary identify spells, and as a support caster. Garrick seems like a 'looooser', though I like how Eldoth sounds like. (Eeeeevil bard! With poisoned arrows! Cool! Though I have absolutely no idea about his character, I may hate his guts actually... ;) ) If only I can get rid of unwanted NPC companions...We will see!

    Conjurer is a great choice. I would offer one piece of advice which isn't obvious to BG2 players. Sleep is your friend. You might have enjoyed magic missile in BG2, and it's also great in BG1 once you've leveled a few times, but sleep rules in the first half of BG1.

    Mage is not that bad actually, you only have to be extra careful at the start. As a conjurer the HP won't be too low (higher CON).

    Have fun Silverstar!

    @ister

    I know, I played IWD 1 which starts at lvl 1, and also from my (though rather limited) P&P experiences, I learned sleep is one of the best spells at lvl 1. Magic missile may not even be enough to kill a goblin at lvl 1, but a sleep will make 2-8 of them to fall asleep instantly. It will be one of the first spells I will pick, naturally. :) Other picks will be, armor (needed for specialisation, though it is not a bad spell at low lvls afterall!) and maybe charm person, as it is better than 2-5 dmg m.missile. But if I run into undead (which are immune to those enchantments) I guess I will be in deep trouble! :p

    @Caradhras

    Thank you! I must now study for my exam on Friday though. And then, I can go visit home and start playing BG1 this Friday night! Looks like my weekend is all filled by BG1. Nice!

    While I agree BG1 probably has a better main story line and gives a better sense of openended adventure as you wander the countryside, there is no way BG1 is better than BG2 as a top to bottom rpg.

    BG2 does too many things amazingly well.

    That's why BG TUTU is the best MOD ever.

    Silverstar I envy you, BG1 is a great gaming experience! Low levels, almost complete freedom, nice plot and subplots, many things to do when you feel like doing them (IMO that's an important aspect, too much linearity sucks). To sum it up it's a great game!

    Lucky you, I have mine exam tommorow :p Oh, I'm so toasted. And then, friday, it's back to work. Saturday, my p&p group time. Then(finaly) I can get back to playing BG.

    I think we're both a little bit addicted to this game ;) We need to seek help :D

    Oh yeah, and good luck on your exam.

    @ion

    We will see...we will see.... :)

    @Caradhras

    I agree with you, wish there were more new games like BG1! Aww, well....

    @Mordokai

    Hey, great then, I have a chance to catch up with you in BG! Hopefully. :p I do not want to rush in the game, really, but part of me wants to play it non-stop for two days! :shake:

    Addiction is not always bad, I guess. I owe many things to BG2, for example. It perfects my limited English, teaches me P&P rules and makes me ever curious and willing about D&D and fantasy settings in general, and perhaps, most important of all, I get to know nice people like you from all around the World, thanks to Sorcerer's Place, ofcourse! Simply amazing! :roll:

    Thank you for your good luck wishes, I wish you best of luck at whatever you do as well!

    EDIT:

    Sorry, which patch do I need? Canada or Internetional one? I guess Internetional, but I can not be sure..how can I check which patch is needed?

    Also, my friend said he could not work the game under Windows XP, so he had to install TuTu. Then it worked.

    So, can I get Easy TuTu to work it on Windows, if this is the only chance of working it? It says that Easy TuTu does not touch the installations, so my modded p BG2 game will stay safe?

    Help?

    This is probably too late. You can play under Compatibility Mode: right click on shortcut > Properties > Compatibility. Run BG under compatibility for Windows 95 and see what that does.

    Easy Tutu is here if you are wanting:
    http://usoutpost31.com/easytutu/

    However, I wouldn't have forseen any problems with the normal BG. I run Windows XP and BG works just fine for me.

    I thought we discussed the BG1 / Windows XP issue earlier in the thread? :p There's a sticky in this forum with the fix for that.

    Enjoy yourself Silverstar!

    It's good to experience the beginning of a great saga. :)

    As for me I couldn't choose between BG1 and BG2, I have enjoyed them both immensely.

    I have not experienced any problems running BG1 under Windows XP Home Edition fully patched. Windows XP Professional I don't know.

    As for you and Mordokai, good luck with the exams.
