Interesting, he had a few valid points. But he makes some parts that are fairly exceptional, look bad. For example, he tried to take into account physics when talking about Aragorn and Frodo on the Pointless Stair. Ignorant people always seem to discredit such things, and never stop to think that this is fantasy, Tolkien's fantasy at that.

Well, good points can one make, but one might also ENJOY THE BLOODY MOVIE as a MOVIE, and not analyze it in hopes of winning the Nobel prize for criticism!

The books are books, and the movies are movies... I decided this long ago... and I love both.

And as movies go, the LotR movies ROCK.

Heh, when we went to see TTT my mate sat there and analysed it coz he's not really into that kind of fantasy film.
When we came out of the cimema he starts going on about how the story is a metaphor of the Industrial Revolution. Fair point, i can see where he's coming from: the shire being Yorkshire, which is apparently where Tolkien lived or spent some of his life there. And Moldor (sp) being London. And the massive nasgul armies being the equivalent of the technology taking over the country.
But, i was quite happy to appreciate the movie as a movie. I'm not worried about any metaphors or bad plot.
