A fair point brought up about 10yr olds wearing nirvana hoodies. However, to slate one persons taste coz it's not your own is totally narrow minded, that it's unreal. Sure, there are going to be so many different tastes on hear, coz there are people from so many different backgrounds, countries, etc. There just isn't any point in trying to preach that your taste is any better than the next person's. You'll only make people want to hear your music even less than before.
This is no generalisation, but all i can say is that in all the years since i can remember, i've never seen a fight break out between people that like rock/metal/insanely dark thrash death speed metal :) but have seen numerous fights break out between "townies". So, on the subject of townie bashing, yeah, i don't particularly like them myself.

Puredarkness: I heard the new Cradle single yesterday. That was pretty amazing. I have to get the new album.

Khelben - Excellent call on Dream Theater. Some of the most inventive-yet-impressive progressive rock ever made.

I'm a die-hard Live fan - their last album 'V" was a great one, though largely overlooked. Every song of theirs is a gem.

Also love Oasis, Massive Attack, the Cure, Depeche, DMB, Alice in Chains and the Chili Peppers.

The Doors were amazing. So were Queen, Elton John and Frank Sinatra in their day.
The Rolling Stones are the most over-rated band of all time, and I hope they all wither away in a nursing home that doesn't change bedpans for weeks on end. (No, I don't like them...why do you ask? ;) )

    1. Metallica. They rock, or at least did before they release Metallica. First album after Cliff Burton died. Anyway, there is a new album coming out this year, and they are rumoured to be playing at the Big Day Out.
    2. Led Zepellin. Jimmy Page is the 2nd best guitarist in the world. Kirk Hammet (Metallica) is the first.
    3. Mike Oldfeild. If you don't know him, find him. It is all good, but try 5 miles out or Crises first. Some dance band have done a cover of one of his songs recently. Moonlight Shadow.
    4. Jethro Tull. I don't know if I should be putting them at 4, but they had some really good music happening.
    5. Black Sabbath. Paranoid was brilliant, as was NIB, Iron Man, Sabbra Cadabra, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath etc. etc.

There are more, and here I list them.
    The Cure. Old School Punk
The Music (New English band. If you are a fan of Led Zep, listen to this).
The White Stripes. 2 peice band, Unbeleivable sound.
Tool. Maynard is a magician at music.
    Cake. I love this band.
    Deep Purple. Great band.
    The Whitlams. Aussie group.
    Murderdolls. Heavy New Metal.
    Kill Switch Engage. Great stuff.
    The Doors. Man, they rock.

    Edit:
Khelben, you didn't list Metallica as your favourite band? You have part of Wherever I May Roam as you location!

There seems to be alot of young people posting here. I really havent seen anyone over the age of 15 listening to Slipknot, and that's not exaggeration. As to Nirvana kitted 10 yearolds, you don't need to be alive when someone dies to appreciate their music. However, I find it hard to beleive that anyone 10 years old has developed a sense of music. Music seems to define peoples personalities, and that doesnt really happen til about 12/13.

Anyway, to add to my band list...
    Powderfinger. Aussie band
    Spiderbait. Aussie band
Augie March. Aussie band (as far as I know...)
Smashing Pumpkins. I can't beleive i forgot this!
A Perfect Circle. Maynard Keenan's side project.
Ac/Dc. Not a huge fan, but they were good.
Custard. Brizzy band. They broke up though.
Alice Cooper. Great man, great music.
Queens of the Stone Age. Saw them at the Big Day Out this year. They went off.
    The Living End. Aussie Band.

I add a new band to my list of favourites - Children Of Bodom. Their album Hate Crew Deathroll is absolutely superb.

Imaging Killswitch Engage gone a bit progressive, and you're almost there. Can't wait to go see them play live.

U2 - Greatest band in the world. :D
    Oasis - Bloody brilliant
Maná - You'd love them if you understood Spanish
The Beatles - I was pretty much raised on them
    The Proclaimers - Hehehe
The Cure - Very old, very good
Train - I don't give how overplayed they are
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - ;)
Coldplay - I was pleasantly surprised
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band - Love them live
Bon Jovi - Doesn't his smile scare you sometimes?
    Vertical Horizon

    EDIT: Forgot the Cranberries

The first Metallica's album after Burton's death was "And Justice for all".

Kirk Hammet the best guitar player of the world? Then what about guys like Hendrix, Clapton, Blackmore etc.?

The Cure are not a punk band, they are considered to be a New Wave band.
