Multiclass in nonhuman only, dual class is human only.

With multiclass experience is divided evenly between the classes and you have access to all abilities of each class at all times.

With dual class once you dual to a new class, you can never gain experience in the old class again, and you do not have access to the old class abilities until the new class level surpasses the old class level.

Yup, that pretty much covers it. Personally I prefer multiclassing, mostly because I prefer Elves over any other race.

I created several dc chars in BG-1 - mainly based on fighters. I switched over to mage or thief at lvl-6 in BG-1 (just 32.000xp for the fighter and **** prof slots) for you can reach lvl-7 reasonably quick with both classes. Should also work fine on a cleric though I never plaed one either in BG-1 or -2.

Once dualclassed you finally have grandmastery :D AND a good thief or mage :D

Playing mc chars I liked the mc elven mage-thief most for he excelled in the dungeons all over BG-1.
