    Heya to all.

Unfortunately, SoU is not available in Australia yet, so to get by my withdrawals, I wish to re-create my original NWN Paladin on paper for SoU.

    The question is as follows:

What new additions must I take into consideration for a Paladin in SoU i.e. Now that there are new feats and new spells, I must reconsider how to distribute my stats, which feats and skills to add and omit, pre-requisites for feats etc.

So can anyone create their SoU Paladin guide or give advice on how they would go about creating their SoU Paladin?

    Much thanks.

Sure there are new feats in spells in SoU, but if I were you I would plan to build a prestige class. They have the best abilities.

Not really. I suppose a paladin/sorcerer could do it since the ability to cast arcane spells is a prerequisite but none of the prestige classes really mesh well with paladins. Unless you go the Blackguard route, the anti-paladin, though I doubt that is what you meant.

They have added two feats available to paladins and clerics (though clearly geared toward paladins) that beef them up (Divine Might: add charisma bonus to all damage for a number of rounds equal to the charisma bonus, and Divine Shield; same thing but adds bonus to AC) and they have a few new spells. PnP has an Undead Hunter prestige class but it has not been implemented (yet?).

Umm.. Thanks for the replies I guess..

but who got the idea that I want to play a prestige class?
Im either gonna play a pure Pally lvl.20 or a Fighter/Paldin 4/16 (Human).

Can someone post any suggestions on how they would go about creating one of the ABOVE, now with SoU - what will they add/remove/change in regards to stats/feats/skills etc.

    Thanks.

Really, not much has changed for the paladin. They can get the two new feats I just mentioned and there are a couple of new spells they get automatically. There is also some nice paladin-only armour and a Holy Avenger in SoU (haven't found the sword yet).

I would add both Divine feats, perhaps at the expense of Extra Turning (hardly any undead in SoU), but other than that there are no real special considerations.

Paladin 20 or Paladin 16/Fighter 4 is not going to happen though. I finished SoU at level 13 and don't think there is much I left out.

True, but Ill be using this character in other modules as well.

    I was unsure whether I should play a pure pally or a Fighter/Pally 4/16.
I was looking at some of the extra goodies that are implemented with SoU and I no longer believe that its really worth playing the Fighter/Pally over a pure one.

    Reasons:

3 extra feats - I have most of what I believe are the usefuul feats for my pally without the need for three extra, with the exception of the fighter only feat Weapon Specialisation.

Now with the new spell Divine Favour I can receive +5 to my bonus attack at lvl. 20
Weapon focus gives +1, compared to W Spec. which gives +2.
with a F/P 4/16 - Divine Favour would only get a max of +4, adding Weap. Spec. adds that +1 extra making it +5 - which I would receive through Divine Favour on a lvl. 20 Pally anyway.

So With weapon specialisation 'cancelled out', the only benefit would be the three extra feats - which means a decrease in the effectiveness of some Pally abilities and less spells.

Ofcourse if you prefer the three extra feats and dont mind the slight watering down of P abilities thats another story.

My point being that the Fighter/Pally 4/16 route (or similar) is not as effective or desirable IMO in SoU as it was in the OC.
(Looking at it solely from a pragmatic view point - role-playing not taken into consideration here).

Is it true that Pally's now have Dicipline as a class feat? (If so - all the more in favour of my case).

    Any comments/opinions on this?

Yes, paladins now get discipline as a class skill.

I just created an elven paladin 2 pally/ 2 fighter atm and most likely a 3rd pally level coming next and I'm a little short of feats. I have invested in the indispensable power attack + cleave till now and, who knows, when I find fun in ranged weapons I might choose zen archery, allowing me to use my wis bonus for archery instead of my crappy dex.

The pally only items - helm, armor and shield - are nice stuff, really, just the armor looks just half as cool as the plain full plate. Silly design. Haven't yet found the holy avenger.

As for the extra skills, I find they are both curse and blessing - where to spend your precious points on? Where to focus on? Anyway, the addition ofg discipline for a pure fighter class like a pally makes sense.

I find it quite unfair, that in the elven crypt, paladins get three quite powerful items, while neither my pure ranger nor ranger/rogue got anything other than that freakin' cloak... sucks...
