I killed the Yuan-ti in the crypts under Beggars Nest and destroyed the pillar. I had information that there should be a magical stone of Necromancer Focus that made her able to raise all the undead, but I didn't find any magical stones by her or the altar or anywhere else in the crypts. Wasn't there supposed to be any, or have I overlooked something?

The man who was the former head of the cult, Jasper or something, was inprisoned in the crypts. After I killed the Yuan-ti I let him out - (roleplaying the good guy who took pity on him) - was it a bad idea to let him out? Should I have let him stay? Will he make trouble later?

    Have no fear...

The necromantic focus is really the pillar or altar or something on the raised platform opposite to the similar raised platform that the yuan-ti was standing on. The only in-game effect it has is if you destry it while you are fighting the yuan-ti, it will destroy the entire hoard of zombies that are in that room.

As for the former leader of the cult, I don't believe that there is any in-game affect for releasing him, unless something happens in late chapter 3 or chapter 4, which I have not played through yet, though I doubt that there would be anything...

Hope that this cleared things up for you.

Releasing the former leader of the cult has not affect on the later game.

Although, releasing him might alter your alignment points slightly. I'm not totally sure on this.

Abyss is correct though, it won't affect the plot of the game.

Same thing happened to me. I never really knew how I killed it because I don't remember it. Maybe my henchman went over there and did a beat down on it. Maybe not.

Turn Undead works wonders here, too, if you happen to be a Paladin. Potions are the way to go, though. Bull's Strength, Endurance, Aid, and maybe Speed for good measure. Ignore the goons and go straight for Gulnan.

Send summoned creatures after her if you are a class that can do that. She is a very tough battle. Potions help, turn undead saved my cleric's butt.
