[IMG] just curious but how many people choose there equiment based on how it looks on their char instead of what it does. I know I do :D My chars don't use helms because i don't like the graphix for them :p also my wizard doesn't carry a staff because they look stupid when carried by an Elf.
also i would wear armor that was worse if it looked cooler

Well, I might if it wasn't that most of the clothing looks silly. Not enough improvement to make a difference here.

I certainly do that in Morrowind. My late game Orc pilgrim is still wearing ordinary bonemold pauldrons (otherwise wearing dreugh and orcish gear) because they actually fit *under* his robe instead of stick out through it.

For the most part, I hate the way any and all clothing looks so far in the game. For my monk, everything looks doubly awful. Who designed these monks robes anyhow. I give em all a thumbs down. I found the best thing to do when you reach the end of a module is simply to export your character, make him some decent looking armor (with apropriate bonuses for his level of course) and send him back in the game. Some really nice looking clothing/armor can be made, but doesn't look like Bioware managed to get it done.

EDIT: OMG, when did I become lord of the funk?! Gotta take a screen shot of this :p

There are a few nice suits of havy armor for a pally. Eventually he has to look like having chr-20 some way :D Having just arrived in Luskan (lvl-15), I give him Delver's armor and a nice shield (+5 AC mod, similar ornaments like Delver's armor). I usually wear one of the circelets though the greater mask of persuasion, watchmans helm and others are better, depending on situation.
So basically I do choose armor and equipment by looks - even though I change the equipment frequently, depending on necessity.

[IMG] I'm still wearing the robe of fire resistance I got at the beginning. Leather looks like crap and I can't wear anything else since I'm a mage. I'm only Chapter 2 though. We'll see if anything better comes up. Oh, I did go for a helmet though... One for 30k gp just recently. That one looks quite cool.

    Tal,

You didn't get the Many Starred Cloak in chapter one? I seem to recall that being better than a fire resistance cloak. It wasn't any more goofy looking than the rest of the mage clothes.

[IMG] Vormaerin, I did have that cloak, but what's that got to do with anything? Cloaks don't show on the character... Only the things you put in the armour/robe/whatever slot do.

    [IMG] what about weopons :)
for me i would pick weopons that looked cool like a +1 longsword that did 1-6 acid dmg i think looks better then a +2 longsword with 1-6 sonic dmg so i would choose the acid one even though the sonic one has better bonus

Oops, you are right Tal. I was thinking it was a robe, because getting it allowed me to switch around my actual robes. Bah, brain is already starting to decline I guess. Thought I had another decade or so before that happened.

    Definately style comes first.
I don't wear a helmet and I keep the black light armor even though a heavy armor would be lot more useful on my fighter. Katanas and 2-bladed swords look cool on him. :)

I used to do this in EQ all the time, but I don't in NWN. Sure, if you can get the character to look cool and be effective, then great, but I seem to be pretty much unable to do that with my cleric without designing armor for him.

The Grey Robe of the Archmagi has got to be the most disturbing Robe in the game (mind you there are no robes actually) what with its pink/purple hues. So yes, I redesigned it in the toolset :p

Another thing is all head gear completely replaces your characters head. So a simple circlet would make you look like you're wearing a huge helmet. This is not avoidable however, as an invisible helmet would make your char appear headless. Hmm Sleepy Hollow :)

[IMG] Ha, thats just like me. Right up until the end of chapter 1 I was wearing the bogstandered thieves clothes, and a horse hair helmet because it looked cool. Now I'm wearing a robe of cold resistance and the same helm. The robe is just because its thieves clothes, but in blue.

Heh- wonder if it's any different for us girls, who routinely wear silly things (e.g. impractical shoes) just because they "look good" in the real world? :D

My dwarf ranger wears the stag helmet because of how it looks. She's built like a bull moose and the stag helmet completes the image. I briefly enjoyed the bright red +2 leather armour because it made her look like Mord-Sith but not enough that I didn't trade it in for less-cool-looking +3 armour later. That suited her image better anyway.

[IMG] My low-level (5) paladin has yet to get his hands on some serious armor, but for now, my nonmagical half plate matches *PERFECTLY* with my nonmagical spike helmet! Honestly, he looks straight up pimpin'...and the ladies don't seem to mind!

I try to choose equipment that will look good on my character, but it's hard! A lot of the better equipment just doesn't look all that good, and there are times when taking the better equipment is just, well, necessary. Of course, my current character is a monk so that really limits the choices ;) He was wearing the Robes of the Yellow Rose for a while (they had a good +3 to AC) but they looked absolutely ridiculous - it was like having a killer canary running around :D Now he's wearing Improved Robes of the Old Order, which has a better colour but massive shoulders. And of course the circlets all appear as helms. Still he doesn't look terrible - though I'm think of taking Invoker's route and modifying the appearance of equipment with the toolset.

I'm liking the winged helm, but my armor isn't too pretty. The Armor of Comfort is a bit drab ... oh well. My sheild is nice and shiney though, and as soon as I find a cool looking sword, I'll be on the cover of PQ (Paladin's Quarterly) :thumb: :good:

Am I the only one that thinks it's weird that no one in this game wears skirts? No real wizard robes, no priestely skirts...everyone seems to wear the same stupid trousers. So little variation *sigh*
