How do YOU beat Sarevok? Post your personal strategies. This is how I did in TotSC:

    My party:
Human Fighter Riveg with longswords and bows
    Dwarf Fighter Kagain with axes
Human Fighter Shar-Teel with two-handed swords and bows
Gnome Cleric/Thief Tiax with flails and slings
Drow Cleric Viconia with maces and slings
Gnome Cleric/Illusionist Quayle with hammers and slings

First I have my spellcasters memorized these spells:

    Tiax:
Cure Light Wounds (All level 1 slots)
Flame Blade (2 level 2 slots)
Miscellanious Spells (All remaining level 2 slots)
Animate Dead (All level 3 slots)
    Summon Ghast(Of course)
He is also leveled like a pick-pocketeer, giving me some VERY good items on the road.

    Quayle:
    Cleric:
    The same as Tiax.
    Mage:
Magic Missile (All level 1 slots)
Melf's Acid Arrow (All level 2 slots but two)
Invisisbility (The last level 2 slots)
Fireball (Half of all the level 3 slots)
Haste (Half of all the level 3 slots)
Summon (?) (All level 4 slots)
    Invisibility (Of course)
He also carries a scroll of Cloudkill and three wands of monster summoning.

In his inventory he also have 1 fully charged wand of fire.

    Viconia:
    Same as Tiax.

This doesn't give me much versitality but VERY good specialisation.

All characters carry 10 potion of healing.

    The Tactic:

    1. I have Tiax walk around and disarm all possible traps so no Battle Horrors will join in.

    2. I summon all the monsters I can, together with my Animate Dead and the like, giving me a VERY hard wall to breach.

    3. I have my Riveg walk up and have Tazok come after me by himself, easily slayed by all my missile launchers and Riveg in close combat. Healing goes with spells.

    4. I have an invisible Quayle go up and chat with Sarevok and come back, with only Semaj following him, as Sarevok and Angelo don't see him but Semaj is triggered.

    5. I closely kick Semaj's pretty-boy arse with melee weapons, all in the group.
    Healing goes with spells.

    6. My buffings is with with potions and give 2 rings of fire resistance to one of your fighters, potion of fire resistance to the rest, fighters prioritated. Make sure that as many as possible have at least 101% fire resistance, as all fire damage will heal them, and Angelo have arrows of detonation.

    7. I then sends Quayle(invisible) up and casts the cloudkill, barely touching the group, but enough to make them come after Quayle.

    8. I Make sure to have the summons make a wall around Sarevok while I have my group bash Angelo with missile weapons, far away from all the other in order to have Angelo shoot them with arrows of detonation, healing them if they are harmed. Make sure that the most powerful is in the front, and at the very front, have Tiax's ghast take the first blows. It have 65 HP and will take a bit of punishments so that the rest of the "power summons" can get their hits on Sarevok's tough and hard-to-hit armor.

    9. In the same time I have my spellcasters heal and hurl attack spells against Angelo, making him fall easily by their spells and the fighters arrows and axe of returning +2.

    10. At this time, Sarevok is usually almost ready with the summons, so I put Kagain and Riveg walk up more closely to him ready with their sword and axe. The rest use their missile weapons until they are out. I make Viconia, Tiax and Quayle cast their Flame Blades when their bullets are out, Shar-Teel goes out in melee with her Two-Handed Sword to take him out when her arrows are out. Sarevok will very soon be down, and the full party will survive the combat. Repeat if neccesary.

I use Potions of Magic Shielding on spell-caster characters, Protection from Magic scrolls on non-casters; then summon lots of creatures. I stay near the temple gate with the party, and with the character who has Boots of Speed, I run to Sarevok, and then retreat to the party after the dialog. Sarevok follows me and starts splitting the summoned creatures. Angelo will not appear.Tazok is just a puppet, trying to slay an unlucky Hobgoblin/Ogrillon/Gnoll/Wolf. As soon as Semaj appears, he gets Arrows of Dispelling and then Acid Arrows and bites the dust before he could cast his Cloudkill. Meanwhile my wizards keep pumping Magic Missiles into Sarevok until he falls.

I always lure Tazok out of the way first and deal with him. Then I set snares all around the centre of the room, have one character creep forward until Sarevok does his evil guy rant and moves towards me. The character moves back, Sarevok sets off the snares, then I have everyone who can summon do so, blocking Sarevok in with summoned animals. None of them last very long against him but they're not supposed to - although I remember being pleasantly surprised when my summoned hobgoblins managed to hit him 6 times. While Sarevok is fighting the summoned monsters, I fire piercing arrows and spells at him and sometimes send Minsc and Kagain in (they being the only ones who are likely to survive a couple of hits from Sarevok).

This was a nightmare of a fight on my first time through the game but becomes quite a bit easier on subsequent runs because while tough, Sarevok is ultimately really, really dumb and when people twenty feet away are crippling him with spells and arrows, he'll ignore them if there's a closer enemy, even if that enemy isn't doing him any damage at all. If someone wrote a mod giving Sarevok half a brain and a little combat sense, this would be a killer of a fight.

No setting snares in BG1? I could have sworn I'd had Imoen set them before I installed BGTutu but maybe I'm just remembering the game wrong.

Well obviously I beat Sarevok by killing him...

Ok I'll be completly honest, it's been years since I've even seen my BG disc and I have no idea where to find it or even if I still have it.

But I remember beating him a couple of times by hitting him with +2 arrows while some bait ran around while he was been shot to death.

I also remember I was a complete and total noob when I first faced Sarevok I never even knew that it was a D@D game at the time, but if I tried again I'd be expirienced enough to be able to beat him in a fair fight probably.

Keep off from Sarevok. Conjure some monsters and send your faithful companions in melee. Even if they die, you don't care, it's game over anyway.

heh, I had a fluke fight.

I had imoen sneak up with some form of fireballish thing, but she was scene, and had gas/cloud attack spells cast on her. She managed to run back (boots o speed) to the party out of the way.

Semaj appeared and I had everyone jump on him, dead. Sarevok finally made it around the room and started trying to kill us all. At this point I suddenly reaslized why I wasn't dead yet. Angelo and Tazok, in their haste to catch imoen had walked right into the topic gases and were unconscious. So I just hacked at Sarevok until he died, only loosing one character. and never had to deal with the other two funkies.

    I love stupid characters :)

I just used haste, and cast cloudkill on the platform while it was still under the fog of war. Only saverok came out, and i just beat him up. lost jaheria the first time, restarted, and didn't have any friendly casualities the second time :) Haste beats all!

I never found any of his cronies except Tozak. I killed him and went out to rest.

Back inside again i scouted ahead with coran. The dialog started, when it was finished I ran like a god. I had Yeslick animate about 20 dead. Sarevok was up to his helmet in skellies. Used up all my best, but i was slaughtered. How? Sarevok made all his saves.

Reload:All the same stuff. Sarevok tripped on something and died before he even killed a skellie. HURRA!!

btw what level are you all at the end, I was 7

I sent my mage in on invisibility and cast beserk on Angelo. He almost killed Sarevok and my mage got out of there fast w/ the boots of speed. Then I sent my mage in again (after healing) w/ another invisibility and Minsc. He cast Fireball and blew Sarevok to shreds. The gore was awesome!

As Sarevok is pretty much immune to Fireball (99% resistance or something like that) I'm a little dubious you blew him to bits with a Fireball.

And someone said they went out to rest, which is impossible.

Sarevok is even easier to beat with a character that has good melee and stealth abilities. Just put on the boots of speed, drink a Strength potion and keep backstabbing, then run away, hide, backstab, run away. He's only got about 150 hitpoints.

Yeah, there´s alot of doubful ways up in here.
What happened to the good old "boost and bash" tactic? Your mages can take care of them other guys, just bash away with all you got on Sarevok and you´ll be aight.
You dont even have to kill them other guys if you feel you cant spare anything on them.

Sheet, if you gotta use some halfcheesy tactic you aint ready to be there. Get out of there and go practice or something.

thank you duke, i am sitting here thinking about how good a few of you are supposed to be, but all you do is use what the programmers screwed up on, or you hide behind walls of monsters, panzies if you ask me, i finished the game with a paladin at lvl 8 i believe, and had Khalid, Jahiera, Yeslick, Minsc, and Xan in my party, we ripped them to shreds with haste, and a few prot from element scrolls as well as chant and aid and bless on all party members, then just pummeled them with all the ranged magic and weapons we had, while my pally and khalid ran up to go toe to toe, with major healing pots on them, and minsc used the elven court bow i believe, so he hit more often, jaheira used sling +1, then had yeslick run from behind with the lightning damage hammer, or i believe its yeslick, the dwarf in the mines, might have been named quayle, xan didn't do much for me, as if i remember correctly he could not use magic missile, so wands of fire for ag's scorcher was used a lot, i think i used 3 of them total. anyways it was one of the most fun battles ive ever done, especially seeing my paladin take on tazok, good fight, till sarevok came behind tazok and scared the fight out of me :D

    How did I beat Sarevok?

Heh, the first time I did not... he kicked my butt

But the second... I was prepared. I bought Oils of Fiery Burning and the like. Hehe, it's not nice to have 6 fireballs exploding in your face. After that Jaheira quickly casted entangle and IT WORKED! Then ranged weapons and fireballs to eliminate his lackeys and him. My characters were already hasted, protected from fear and blessed (among other things). But then he managed to escape Entangle and came after me. I was left with 1 (one) Hit Point when Kivan killed him right on time with a critical hit.
    Lucky, huh?

I went in with my 'classic' party, I had myself, a paladin, Minsc, Jaheria, Khalid, and Dynaheir. It was just a matter of we came, we buffed, we killed.

And then I did it again at the end of TotSC when he was stronger (but so was I).

[IMG] It seems that whenever there's a thread about killing Sarevok, there's always people who say they beat him by "casting 10 magic missiles" or
beating him senseless with melee. Fact is, that's literally impossible. First off, he's completely immune to any form of magic or elemental attacks (his Taint-fueled armor takes care of that). Secondly, he's got lots of hitpoints, great THAC0, and great AC. Hitting him is pretty hard. Unless you use the Prot. from Evil trick you're not going to last more than 10 seconds... which isn't long enough for your other guys to kill him. I guess with Haste, lots of skeletons, good projectile backup, some summoned monsters and a little luck you could beat him. But I don't understand what most of these people are saying.

Not completely, IIRC, a FB does about 1-4 damage on him still.
It´s very little so I haven´t casted any on him for a year or two, hence the foggy memory.

But yeah, killing him with magic is pretty much impossible since he´ll kill you before you get off enough spells. If you could memorize THAT many spells in the first place that is.
